The 2019 NBA offseason has been filled with many surprising signings and trades so far. This time of year is filled with many different NBA rumors of potential trades and signings of big-name players. Current NBA rumors floating around include John Wall being traded to the Miami Heat and Dwight Howard making a return to the Los Angeles Lakers. In the NBA, anything is possible.
NBA Rumors
John Wall to the Miami Heat
While most recent rumors surrounding the Washington Wizards have revolved around Bradley Beal, this one proposes the idea of both him and Wall going to Miami. According to Paul Kasabian of Bleacher Report, the Heat could take on Wall’s contract in order to also acquire Beal via trade. While this trade would require Washington to give up both of their star players it would also give them back plenty of young talent and future cap space. For Miami, it may be a high-risk high-reward situation. They would get two star players to pair with their all-star guard/forward Jimmy Butler and possibly have one of the best teams in the NBA. If things don’t work out, however, they would be stuck with that group for years to come. It is a big risk, but it wouldn’t be the first time Pat Riley took a chance.
Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers
Dwight Howard is reportedly likely to be waived by the Memphis Grizzlies and become an unrestricted free agent. Since that news broke, Howard told Arash Markavi of the LA Times that he would be open to joining the Los Angeles Lakers. Whether the Lakers would have any interest in signing the 33-year-old center remains to be seen. While he is aging and his play has fallen off he could still be of use to the Lakers. Howard still has top-notch rebounding ability as well as the ability to score along the interior. His playoff experience could also help the team as they look to make a deep run this postseason. The Lakers have not yet shown any interest in Howard and it’s entirely possible the may never do so.
Chris Paul to the Miami Heat
This rumor has gained a lot of traction over the past couple of days since the Oklahoma City Thunder announced they did not plan to keep Chris Paul after the Houston Rockets trade. According to Kyle Newport of Bleacher Report, the Thunder want to trade Paul as soon as possible, preferably to the Heat. The Heat are big fans of his game but have not been actively pursuing him thus far. He would be an upgrade and help Miami, but his contract is a big problem. The Heat are currently projected to have a substantial amount of cap space in the near future. If the Heat were to trade for Paul, he would tie them up financially and keep them making other moves. The possible trade is still in the very early stages and may never happen at all. It is definitely something to keep an eye on though.
It is quite possible that one or more of these NBA rumors do eventually happen. At this point, they are just rumors and should be taken with a grain of salt. No matter what happens they should still be interesting storylines to follow this offseason.
