Kyrie Irving is one of the top free agents in the 2019 NBA Free Agency class. Irving played his first six seasons for the Cleveland Cavaliers before being traded to the Boston Celtics where he has spent the past two seasons. For his career, Irving has career averages of 22.2 points and 5.7 assists. As a result, he is viewed as one of the top players in the NBA.
Kyrie Irving Fires his Agent, Reportedly Will Join Roc Nation Sports
Irving has had the same agent for his entire career, Jeff Wechsler. It is being reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that Irving and Wechsler have parted ways and Irving will join Roc Nation Sports.

Not the First Sign of Trouble
This wasn’t the first sign of turmoil between Irving and Wechsler. In 2014 it was being reported by ESPN’s Chad Ford that Irving wanted out of Cleveland. Wechsler was of the belief that Irving should stay in Cleveland which had Irving contemplating ending their relationship. Wechsler being retained in 2014 proved to be wise by Irving. As a result of Irving staying in Cleveland, the Cavaliers ended up winning a championship in 2016.
It can be speculated that perhaps the situation is the same in 2019 as it was in 2014. Perhaps Wechsler believes it’s in Irving’s best interests to stay with the Boston Celtics as the team attempts to facilitate a trade for Anthony Davis. If that is indeed the case, it is a clear sign that Irving is on his way out. The fact that Roc Nation Sports is based out of New York City is yet another sign. However, it is not the New York Knicks, but the Brooklyn Nets who appeared to be the clear frontrunner for Irving’s signature this summer.
If this is the end of Irving’s time in a Celtics uniform, it was a disappointment. The Celtics had high hopes this season, but they were knocked out of the Eastern Conference playoffs early. As a result of season-long turmoil, the Celtics finished well under their desired expectations. A big factor of that turmoil was Kyrie Irving.
Needless to say, Kyrie Irving has the requisite talent to lead a team on a deep playoff run, but he will need to improve his leadership.
