Nyeri Ring is drawing a lot of interest from several high-major programs and has an upcoming visit to Wake Forest.

Athletic Defensive-Minded Transfer Drawing Lot of Interest, Has Vist To ACC Program Upcoming

Ring Nyeri is in the NCAA transfer portal for the second consecutive year and is drawing lots of interest from programs.

According to Jaime Shaw of On3, Nyeri will take his first visit of this cycle to Wake Forest this week. Shaw said that Nyeri has also heard from Colorado, Seton Hall, Baylor, Pepperdine, Oklahoma State, Tulane, New Mexico State, LaSalle, and Western Kentucky.

Defensive-Minded Transfer Drawing Lot of Interest, Has Visit to ACC Program Upcoming

Nyeri is coming off his first season at Northern Colorado, where he showed significant improvement over his freshman campaign. The athletic 6-8 forward owns a high motor with the skills to be an impact interior role player at the upper Division I level. He has the defensive tools coaches are always looking for, and he has outstanding rebounding instincts.

Offensively, Nyeri’s game is evolving. Nyeri is an efficient scorer who thrives off the move, whether it is on cuts, dump-offs, or in transition. He is improving his 3-point shooting and is a good offensive rebounder. However, he needs to improve as a shot creator, passer, and free-throw shooter.

Nyeri is a versatile, active defender who is a quick jumper and can cover lots of ground. Nyeri can guard the 3-through-5, though he may be able to guard just both forward spots if he moves up a level. He is a solid defensive rebounder, but needs to add strength so he doesn’t get pushed around by bigger players.

Nyeri averaged 8.5 points, 6.3 rebounds (1.8 offensive) with shooting splits of 53.6/35.3/62.2. He scored in double figures 13 times and produced two double-doubles.

Nyeri will have two years of eligibility left. He was a consensus three-star recruit in 2024 and started his career at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), where he spent one season.

Looking At The  Major Schools Interested

Wake Forest Demon Deacons

Wake Forest has posted five straight winning seasons under head coach Steve Forbes, going 18-17 and 7-11 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons have not made the NCAA Tournament since 2016-17 and lost 10 of their top 11 players from this past season’s squad.

Isaac Carr, a reserve 6-4 guard, is the only returnee. However, Forbes has brought in five transfers led by Merrimack point guard Kevair Kennedy. The Deacs have also signed two four-star high school prospects in twins, Gavin and Gallagher Placide.

Colorado Buffaloes

Colorado went 17-16 and 7-11 in the Big 12 this past season, marking the third time in the last four campaigns that the Buffaloes failed to win 20 games. However, coach Tad Boyle has lost 10 players, including nine who transferred out. North Dakota State transfer Noah Feddersen, a 6-10 forward, leads a five-man recruiting class that includes one incoming freshman and three international players.

Seton Hall Pirates

Seton Hall is once again going through a complete rebuild after going 21-12 and 10-10 in the Big East. The Pirates have posted three winning seasons, topping the 20-victory mark twice, but they have not made the NCAA Tournament in any of Shaheen Halloway’s four seasons.

Halloway has brought in four backcourt transfers, with Dartmouth guard Kareem Thomas the latest to commit yesterday.  The Pirates also have just one incoming freshman thus far in consensus 3-star point guard Darien Moore.

Baylor Bears

Baylor is coming off its worst season since early in coach Scott Drew’s tenure, going 17-17, though just 6-12 in the Big 12. The Bears weren’t a deep team this past season, and they lost six of their top seven players after star freshman Tounde Yessoufou announced he was entering the transfer portal late last night. The Bears have already lost their leading scorer, Cameron Carr, to the 2026 NBA draft.

On the positive side, Drew has received commitments from two transfers, including one of the best guards in the portal, Kayden Mingo. Drew has also signed consensus four-star Elijah Williams to his 2026 recruiting class.

Oklahoma State Cowboys

Oklahoma State won 20 games for the first time in three seasons, though the Cowboys went just 6-12 in Big 12 play. The Cowboys lost three seniors and had eight players enter the transfer portal. Head coach Steve Lutz, who is 37-33 in his two seasons at Oklahoma State, has already secured seven newcomers.

Former UNC forward Luka Bogavac leads three transfers, including a pair of Sam Houston guards — Kashie Nutt and Jacob Walker. With the four incoming freshmen, the Cowboys have a consensus top 15 recruiting class led by power forward Latrell Almond (signed) and wing Anthony Felesi (committed).
