Report: Derrick Rose Signs With Minnesota Timberwolves

The Timberwolves reportedly expressed interest in the 29-year-old former MVP after the Cleveland Cavaliers traded Rose to the Utah Jazz as part of a three-team, six-player swap at the Trade Deadline in February.

Rose will reunite with his former coach in Chicago, Tom Thibodeau, and former teammates Jimmy Butler, who was supposed to miss four to six weeks with a torn meniscus but could return in time for the playoffs, and Taj Gibson.

Injury-Prone

The Cavaliers signed Rose to a one-year, veterans minimum contract before the season began, but he only played in 16 games because of a sprained left ankle. Rose stepped away from Cleveland in November to revaluate his basketball career but returned to the team in December. He averaged 9.8 points and 1.6 assists per game, shot 44 percent from the field and averaged 19.3 minutes per game as a member of the Cavaliers.

Injuries have plagued Rose’s career since winning the 2010-11 MVP with the Chicago Bulls. He played in only 39 games in 2011-12 before missing the entire 2012-13 season with an ACL injury. Rose returned to the court in 2013-14 but a torn meniscus limited him to 10 games. He played in an average of 60 games over the course of the next three seasons, including 64 with the New York Knicks two seasons ago. But that same season, he tore his meniscus again, resulting in the fourth knee surgery of Rose’s nine-year career.
