The Utah Jazz are 5-20 and possess the third-worst record in the NBA, only ahead of the Washington Wizards and New Orleans Pelicans. For the past couple of years, they have been involved in many trade rumors. This does not seem any different this time around.
Recently, ESPN’s Bobby Marks revealed which Jazz players could be on the move. Most notably, he named guard Collin Sexton “an ideal trade candidate.” Marks compares Sexton’s situation to Dennis Schroder‘s, who recently joined the Golden State Warriors via a trade from the Brooklyn Nets.
Sexton has a cap hit of $18.4 million this season and $19.2 million in 2025-26. Included in his salary is a $200,000 likely bonus for games played (62 or more) and true shooting percentage (62% or more). There is an additional $300,000 in bonuses that are considered unlikely but count toward the apron. Sexton is extension-eligible one day after the NBA Finals conclude.
Similar to Schroder, Sexton is an ideal trade candidate but with a slightly higher salary and one more year remaining on his contract.
Additionally, according to ESPN’s Tim McMahon, the Jazz are expected to be a busy team in the trade market this season. Specifically, the team will entertain trades for Sexton, Jordan Clarkson, and John Collins. However, Marks did mention that the Jazz have “no urgency” to make a trade, especially involving Sexton.
According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, Utah is expected to be active in the trade market if the right deal materializes with Sexton, Jordan Clarkson and John Collins. Considering Sexton has another year left on his contract and Utah has amassed 13 first-round picks over the next seven drafts, there is no urgency to move off one of its more consistent players.

Collin Sexton’s Season So Far
The 25-year-old is in the midst of his third season in Utah. In 2022, the Jazz acquired Sexton from the Cleveland Cavaliers for Donovan Mitchell. After some ups and downs in Cleveland, Sexton has carved out a solid role in Utah. This season, Sexton is averaging 16.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists across 25 games. Furthermore, he is shooting 48% from the field and 42% from beyond the arc.
Earlier this year, Sexton said he believes he is a top-10 point guard currently in the NBA (YouTube link).
“Are you a top 10 NBA point guard right now? Collin Sexton: If I’m putting myself in there, for sure. I put myself against anybody. At the end of the day, I don’t back down from nobody. I got a different type of chip on my shoulder. I got a different type of grind that when I step between those lines, it’s me against you.”
Though it may be a stretch to rank him that high, there is no doubt that Sexton has a ton of talent. He is a high-energy player who provides a lot on the offensive side of the ball. Additionally, he is still young and could help any team in the league.
The Last Word
The trade deadline is still a couple of months away. Currently, it is unknown how serious the Jazz are about trading Sexton. However, it could make sense depending on their return.
Sexton has one season remaining on his contract after this year. In the offseason, he is eligible for an extension. If the Jazz decide they do not want to retain Sexton for the long run, trading him this season is a legitimate option.
