Toronto Raptors legend Vince Carter is joining forces with former Orlando Magic leader Tracy McGrady and former Toronto FC star Jozy Altidore to buy a minority stake in the NFL’s Buffalo Bills, according to Sportico’s Scott Soshnick and Eben Novy-Williams.
“Former NBA stars Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady, and former U.S. Soccer star Jozy Altidore, all of whom played in Toronto, are in talks to buy minority stakes in the Buffalo Bills, according to multiple people familiar with the negotiations who were granted anonymity because the details are private.
The club, which is owned by the Pegula family, has been seeking investors. Earlier this year the Bills said they’d hired Allen & Co. to help explore the sale of a non-control stake, which was reported to be around 25%. …
Nothing has been signed and it is possible that the investments do not happen, the sources said.”
In their playing days, Carter and McGrady were teammates with the Raptors. However, they were both successful with multiple franchises. Carter was also a standout player with the New Jersey Nets (now the Brooklyn Nets) and Dallas Mavericks. McGrady’s best years may have been with the Magic, but he starred for the Houston Rockets as well.
Carter and McGrady are both enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Neither Carter nor McGrady have roots in the New York area. They were raised in Florida. Since retiring, Carter lives in Atlanta while McGrady resided in Houston up until at least 2023. Carter did play for the Nets, a franchise that’s relocated to Brooklyn, for four-plus seasons.
With that being said, this probably isn’t a move that’s primarily motivated by nostalgia. Toronto is less than 60 miles away from Buffalo. It’s entirely possible that Carter, McGrady, or Altidore have fond memories of their time in the city. Still, it’s just a great business opportunity.
A 25 percent stake in a team that’s currently valued at $5.08 billion dollars could lead to a financial windfall for the second cousins and Altidore.
If the trio are successful in their bid for a minority stakes in the Bills, they’d join Los Angeles Lakers icon Magic Johnson as the only former NBA players to be part of an NFL franchise’s ownership group. Johnson has been one of the Washington Commanders’ minority owners since 2023.
Altidore would become the first former MLS player with an ownership stake in an NFL team.
