In an official statement put out by the team, the New York Knicks announced they have signed guard Boo Buie to an Exhibit 10 contract.

The Northwestern alum went undrafted back in June. He played for the Phoenix Suns during this year’s Summer League. In five games, all starts, Buie averaged 9 points, 1.4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal.

Buie, an Albany native, is not expected to make the team this season. This is true even though they still have a few standard contract spots open. Additionally, the Knicks already have all three of their two-way contract spots filled up. Currently, Ariel Hukporti, Kevin McCullar, and Jacob Toppin each occupy the Knicks’ two-way spots. The most likely scenario for Buie is that the Knicks will waive him and redirect him to the G League.

Where the New York Knicks Stand in the Eastern Conference

Last season, the Knicks surprised many in the basketball world, earning the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. Additionally, they finished with a 50-32 record, their best record in over a decade. Going into the 2024-25 NBA season, expectations remain high in New York. This offseason, the Knicks made some major moves in an effort to further solidify themselves as legitimate title contenders. Early in the offseason, the team acquired wing Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets. Additionally, just before the beginning of training camp, the Knicks landed big man Karl-Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves.

On the other hand, the Knicks lost some valuable pieces. Most notably, the team moved on from All-Star Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo as part of the Towns trade. Additionally, the team lost Alec Burks to the Miami Heat and Isaiah Hartenstein to the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Knicks will look like a completely different team this season. However, there is no reason to believe they will not finish as a top team in the Eastern Conference once again. Furthermore, many believe the Knicks have the best chance to dethrone the reigning champion Boston Celtics in the East.

The Last Word

There is a lot of excitement in New York, and it is for good reason. For the first time in a long time, there are genuine championship aspirations surrounding the Knicks franchise. They have a great team on paper and improved after their impressive campaign last season. There are still some concerns within the team, especially their big man depth, but the Knicks are still a very talented team. By all means, the Knicks deserve to be considered a favorite to represent the Eastern Conference during next year’s NBA Finals. Whether they have what it takes to get over the hump and bring a championship back to New York for the first time since 1973 remains to be seen, however.
