Washington Wizards
The Wizards really tried to upgrade their roster at the trade deadline with the acquisitions of Trae Young and Anthony Davis. So, the Wizards apparently want to compete this year, and they do have some intriguing young talent. The Wizards may choose to move Davis this summer, as Fischer and NBA on Prime insider Chris Haynes suggested. While it shouldn’t necessarily be expected that the Wizards would trade Davis, the Trail Blazers showed interest in the 33-year-old at the 2026 trade deadline.

“You might have seen our colleague Chris Haynes’ eyebrow-raising revelation on Sirius XM NBA earlier this week, stating that he believes there’s a chance Davis could be traded this offseason before ever playing a game for the Wizards,” Fischer wrote.
“I’ve heard that same trade sentiment floating around the league ahead of potential contract extension talks this summer, and I’ve likewise been advised by sources close to the situation to regard Portland as a potential Davis suitor should it fall short in its Antetokounmpo pursuit.”
Washington has 14 players on its 2026-27 roster with little flexibility, though the main priority will be to re-sign Young, who could opt into his $48.9 million player option—the Wizards project to be an over-the-cap team. A trade materializing between the two teams involving either Holiday or Davis is hard to fathom at this time, though with the NBA, anything is possible down the line.
Houston Rockets
Fred VanVleet should be back from his torn ACL. Amen Thompson is a burgeoning star and Reed Sheppard should continue his upward trajectory. But the playoffs showed the Rockets need a veteran point guard if they are to take the next step.
Houston has 10 players under contract for 2026-27 and is $23 million over the cap, assuming VanVleet opts into his $25 million player option. Still, they project to be $13 million under the tax line, and there are suggestions that Kevin Durant may not be in a Rockets uniform next year.
“There is no guarantee that the Rockets will want to bring Durant back next year, especially considering he can opt out after the 2026-27 season,” Daniel Chavkin of The Sporting News said. “Houston will have to decide on a direction for the future and whether it makes sense to keep Durant or move on with a focus on the younger core.”
“Durant will be 38 years old next year and presumably wants another chance at an NBA title,” Chavkin adds. “If he doesn’t think the Rockets are title contenders, he might once again ask for a trade to a contending team.”
Could a Durant, who will make $43.9 million this upcoming season, for Holiday trade work? The Blazers would likely have to include another player, for salary-matching purposes, or a draft pick in a trade.
New York Knicks
The famed New York Knicks franchise could be headed to its first NBA Finals since 1994. New York could stand to revamp their backcourt depth, but they would likely have to give up Mikal Bridges in the trade. Is that something they want to do, though it would probably interest the Blazers?
Bridges is slated to make $33.4 million this upcoming season.
