Utah Jazz Signing Bez Mbeng
In a surprising announcement, NBA Insider Jake Fischer reported that the Utah Jazz plan to sign defensive standout Bez Mbeng to a 10-day contract. Mbeng will make a little over $73,000 when he signs his contract.
“The Utah Jazz are signing Bez Mbeng to a 10-day contract, per sources,” Fisher said. “The Yale product has spent this 2025-26 season with the Sioux Falls Skyforce.”
Mbeng went undrafted this past June after playing at Yale, where he was a three-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year. The 6-4 guard spent the summer with the Golden State Warriors, appearing in two games, before landing with the Miami Heat on an Exhibit 10 deal late in training camp. After getting waived by the Heat, he was assigned to the Skyforce.
Mbeng averaged 6.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.8 steals in 27.5 minutes per game over 41 appearances for the Skyforce. He posted two double-doubles, including one triple-double, and had shooting splits of 49.5/27.0/57.1.
Mbeng excels as a point-of-attack defender, with anticipation and discipline as staples, and strong team‑defense awareness. He is capable of guarding all three backcourt positions. Offensively, the 23-year-old is limited, though he is a capable connector who moves the ball, cuts, screens, and keeps the offense flowing.
Utah has 18 players under contract after signing Andersson Garcia to a 10-day contract yesterday. So, the Jazz will have to make a corresponding move before Mbeng’s signing becomes official. Garcia and Mo Bamba, who signed a second 10-day contract, are the most likely players to get waived. However, Kevin Love and Jusuf Nurkic are also candidates for release, as both are unrestricted free agents at the end of the year.
