Netflix’s NBA docuseries show “Starting 5” has been renewed for a second season. The Starting 5 Netflix release date for Season 2 will likely be next fall, following the 2024-25 NBA season. The first season followed LeBron James, Domantas Sabonis, Jayson Tatum, Jimmy Butler, and Anthony Edwards through the 2023-24 NBA season. This season, the NBA Netflix show will feature five new stars, bringing us a new perspective on some of the best players in the NBA.
New NBA Stars Set Debut On Netflix’s “Starting Five” Season Two
Season One Success
The first season of Starting 5 was wildly considered a success by producers and NBA fans. Getting an inside look at five of the best players in the NBA was a treat. Fans got to see players in a light they had never seen before. Particularly, the behind-the-scenes family moments were the series’ highlights, especially since all of the basketball-related drama had already played out during the season.

LeBron James highlighted the star-studded cast. Fans were able to see the softer side of “The King,” seeing him interact with his three children and giving lots of recognition to his wife for all she does for him off the court.
The star of season one, however, was Minnesota’s budding superstar, Anthony Edwards. Fans got to experience Edwards and his girlfriend having their first child together and buying their first home together. Seeing the softer side of the smack-talking, aggressive-playing Edwards was a new view of him that only added to his compelling personality.
NBA Netflix Show Lowlights
Although Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics won the NBA championship last season, he was the biggest bore of the show. Tatum’s low-energy personality was not nearly as compelling as that of James or Edwards, and even Sabonis and Butler outshined the Boston star.
Butler brought his quirky personality that fans had only gotten a glimpse of before. Sabonis was the happy-go-lucky dad and family man. You would never have known it from seeing the big man dominate in Sacramento.

Next season, five new stars will be featured in the Netflix series. Young star point guards Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Tyrese Haliburton will show the new faces of the league. Veteran stars Kevin Durant and James Harden will give us a look at their lives that we have never seen before, and Jaylen Brown will give the story behind the current NBA champion and Finals MVP.
Although competing with personalities like Butler, James, and Edwards will be difficult, this season promises to bring intrigue. Halliburton has shown his dynamic personality through various media outlets. Durant, known for being a bit surly with the media, can maybe show what he is really like in his normal life.
Perhaps the biggest intrigue about the second season is the portrayal of Harden. Harden is commonly known around the league for really enjoying going out and nightlife. NBA players partying was not an aspect of Season One at all. Therefore, Harden being a part of Season Two could provide a new angle of entertainment.
