In a new collaboration between eBay and former WNBA MVP Candace Parker, basketball and trading card enthusiasts will soon have the chance to bid on a collection of exclusive basketball cards through the “Gametime Gets” auction series. This event, designed to celebrate the end of the WNBA season and the beginning of the NBA season, will see eBay releasing 50 handpicked cards for auction. The “Gametime Gets” auction features 50 basketball cards, with some of the most sought-after items from the trading card hobby world. These include legendary cards from the NBA and WNBA players, representing moments that made history on the court. With Parker’s extensive basketball knowledge and deep connection to the sport, she was the ideal person to curate this exciting collection.
Starting on October 22, 2024, and continuing every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET, collectors will have 24 hours to bid on cards that drop when major milestones are achieved. Each week, eBay will release new cards corresponding to key events from the basketball world, and each auction starts with a symbolic minimum bid of just $0.24, paying tribute to the 24-second shot clock.
Helping Grow the WNBA
For Parker, the growth of women’s basketball is also an important aspect of this event. She spoke about how, when she was younger, she could only collect men’s basketball cards. As a Chicago native, she grew up collecting Michael Jordan cards.
Now, WNBA basketball cards are growing at an unprecedented rate, and she is excited to help promote the growth of that side of the hobby. Recently, a Caitlin Clark panini basketball card sold at auction for $97,000. The “Gametime Gets” series will try to match this record sale with some rare WNBA cards.
