The 2021 No. 14 pick is signing a three-year, $39 million extension that’ll keep him under team control through 2027-28. Golden State currently has plenty of backcourt depth. However, Moody’s expected to play a key role in Golden State’s rotation for the foreseeable future.
In 2023-24, he averaged a career-high 8.1 points in 17.5 minutes per game while shooting 36.0 percent from three. The 3-and-D wing has made at least 36 percent of his three-point attempts every season.
Warriors Agree To Extension With 2021 Lottery Pick Moses Moody
At 22 years young, Moody is in prime position to be a central figure in the Warriors’ new era.
For now, the focus is giving two-time MVP selection Stephen Curry as strong a supporting cast as possible. With the 36-year-old living legend still playing at an elite level, it’s only fair. Though the league is tilting back to the superteam era, Golden State has a fighting chance against anyone if the chef is cooking.
Based on the way the Warriors ended the preseason, the plan may be to start Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Draymond Green and Trayce Jackson-Davis alongside Curry. If so, Moody would be coming off the bench alongside players like Buddy Hield, De’Anthony Melton, Brandin Podziemski, and Kyle Anderson.
That being said, there are spacing concerns in the frontcourt. It isn’t necessarily alarming when compared to other teams. Nonetheless, it’s worth noting, as it could be the impetus for Warriors head coach Steve Kerr bringing Kuminga off the bench. If so, he could look to start Melton, Podziemski, or even Moody.
As that relates to the Arkansas native’s freshly inked extension, Melton is only under contract through 2024-25. Furthermore, Kuminga is likely to be a restricted free agent next offseason. If so, Moody could have a clear pathway towards starting alongside Curry next season and beyond.
