Past Celtics Fan Favorite Speaks About Potential NBA Comeback

The 2018-19 Celtics is one of the most disappointing teams in franchise history.

It has been nearly three years since he last played on an NBA court, but big man Tacko Fall is not ready to give up on making it back to the league just yet. In a recent interview with Sam DiGiovanni of ClutchPoints, the former Boston Celtics big man revealed he is keeping the door open for a potential NBA return.

“Obviously, as a competitor, you want to play at the highest level. I’ve played in the NBA. I mean, a couple of years ago, I was an NBA player. Now, I’m an even better player. I’m more experienced. My body, like I said, feels much better. I move a lot better and I’m still fairly young. I definitely want to put myself in a position where there’s opportunities for me to make it back. But at the same time, I just want to take it day-by-day and focus on the task at hand and just take it as it comes.”

Fall played parts of these seasons between the Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2019 to 2021. The 28-year-old appeared in 37 games in that time, starting once. In those games, he averaged 2.2 points and 2.4 rebounds. His time was mostly spent in the G League, however, where he was much more successful. In 2020 and 2022, Fall earned NBA G League All-Defensive Team honors. Additionally, in 2022, he was the G League blocks leader.

For the past couple of years, Fall has played overseas. Most recently, he played for the Nanjing Monkey Kings of the CBA. In 2023, he was the CBA blocks leader.

What Tacko Fall Could Bring to An NBA Team

The most notable aspect of Fall’s game is his size. Standing at 7’6″, Fall is one of the tallest players to ever play in the NBA. This type of size will always intrigue numerous NBA teams. Additionally, as made clear during his time in the G League, Fall is a legitimate shot-blocking threat and a daunting paint presence. However, despite his size, the Senegal native never put it all together to become a regular contributor in the NBA. He does not offer much on the offensive side of the ball and is a lackluster rebounder, especially for his height.

Regardless, Fall said in his interview with DiGiovanni that he has improved since his time in the NBA. At 28 years old, he likely will not get much better than he already is. However, he would still be an intriguing addition for any NBA team eying center depth.

The Last Word On Tacko Fall

Fall will likely never become a consistent starter if he returns to the NBA. However, he has experience in the league and has apparently improved in his three years away. If he can get another opportunity to play in the league, Fall could rejuvenate his playing career.
