The 2024 WNBA season has been one for the history books, and Sunday night was no exception. The Sunday night WNBA slate brought two WNBA records. Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson became the first player in league history to score 1,000 points in a single season. Meanwhile, Indiana Fever rookie Caitlin Clark shattered the WNBA’s all-time rookie scoring record. The WNBA record books will never be the same after this historic season, so let’s look at the new A’ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark’s records.
WNBA Stars Set New Scoring Records
A’Ja Wilson, The Unstoppable
Last week, A’ja Wilson made history as she surpassed the previous single-season scoring record of 939 points, set by Jewell Loyd of the Seattle Storm in 2023. Wilson has been tearing up the WNBA all season long, and this record is just one of the honors she will likely take home when the season is all said and done.
This season, Wilson has averaged 27 points per game, showcasing her ability to score from all areas of the court. She’s also averaged 12 rebounds this season. Her dominance extends beyond scoring and rebounding, as she has also been a force on the defensive end. She is averaging over 2.5 blocks per game and almost two steals per game as well. Wilson already has one Defensive Player of the Year trophy and two MVP trophies. She will likely win another MVP from her performance this season.

On Sunday, Wilson further cemented her name in the WNBA record books. She is now the first player ever to score 1,000 points in a WNBA season. Wilson believes this record won’t hold long as the WNBA season continues to expand and the talent continues to rise. For now, she is going to enjoy the honor. Wilson will also likely end the season with the highest single-season scoring average in WNBA history as well (it is now held by Diana Taurasi, 25.3 points per game).
Another WNBA Record Is Broken
While Wilson has another MVP-caliber season, most of the WNBA headlines have focused on rookie Caitlin Clark. In her debut season, Clark not only broke the WNBA’s rookie scoring record but also set records for assists and three-pointers made by a rookie. Her impressive performances have earned her recognition as one of the brightest young stars in the league.

Clark’s scoring record-breaking performance came in the Fever’s 110-109 victory over the Dallas Wings. She finished the game with 35 points. With that, she surpassed the previous single-season rookie-scoring WNBA record of 744 points, held by Seimone Augustus.
As the 2024 WNBA season draws to a close, it is clear that these historic achievements will be remembered. Wilson and Clark have not only showcased their skills but have also helped to elevate the level of play in the league. Both names will be in the WNBA record books for the foreseeable future. However, the league is growing rapidly, so how long the records stand is yet to be seen. Check out the WNBA playoff schedule to watch both these stars chase more records and the WNBA championship.
