The Nets are in a rebuilding phase. After the departures of Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and James Harden, the Nets roster has been a mix and match of trade chips and young fliers. The Nets decided to cut bait this offseason with their blue-chip trade piece Mikal Bridges. Bridges was sent across the city to the New York Knicks in exchange for multiple first-round picks. The Nets regained control of their 2025 and 2026 first-round picks in another transaction with the Houston Rockets.
Now, with some draft picks in their trove, the Nets are likely going to take the season to see what they have as far as young talent goes. Cam Thomas, Cameron Johnson, Nic Claxton, and Ziaire Williams are just a few of the NBA players with potential on the Nets roster. The Nets are tanking this season, with highly regarded prospect Cooper Flagg as the likely top pick.
Nets Offseason Acquisitions
The Brooklyn roster certainly made minor improvements over the offseason. Bringing in Bojan Bogdanović, Shake Milton, and Ziaire Williams, brings some talent to the Nets roster. Despite these additions, the Nets are projected to struggle, with some predicting they will fall short of their 18.5-win total odds.
Jordi Fernández was hired as head coach to focus on development. He builds strong relationships with players and fosters their growth, which is crucial for the Nets’ young roster. Despite the new coach and roster upgrades, the Nets won’t win many games during the 2024-25 NBA season.
Brooklyn Nets NBA Odds
Analysts project the Nets as the worst team in the NBA for the 2024-25 season. According to FanDuel, the Nets’ total wins are projected at 18.5 next season. This is the lowest projection in the league.
The Brooklyn Nets depth chart certainly looks like that of a low 20-win team. The Nets’ roster might change quite a bit during the course of the season, therefore their win total is hard to predict. The Nets news now is all about potential trade options for the team to shed their decent talent. Brooklyn could trade more of their win-now talent including Johnson, Bogdanovic, and Dorian Finney-Smith.

However, with significant cap space projected for 2025 and ample draft assets, the Nets’ rebuilding phase may be relatively short. The immediate future doesn’t look promising. That being said, since moving to Brooklyn, the Nets have prioritized making big splash signings and trades. If a star player (like Jimmy Butler) becomes available midseason the Nets could pounce on them for the right price. A trade like this would flip their win total odds completely. Ultimately betting on their win total might be risky, especially considering the lower number.
