Golden State Warriors Working Out Former First-Round Pick

The Golden State Warriors have gone through a tough offseason this summer. They brought in some solid players like Kyle Anderson, De’Anthony Melton, and Buddy Hield. However, none of these additions will negate the loss of Warriors legend Klay Thompson, who joined the Dallas Mavericks this offseason. Additionally, the Warriors moved on from point guard Chris Paul and big man Dario Saric. Since winning a championship in 2022, things have been going downhill for the Warriors. However, it is clear they are still interested in competing for a championship as long as Stephen Curry is on the team. And while he is no Thompson, the Warriors are reportedly eyeing a former first-round pick to add to the mix. According to his agent, Daniel Hazan, 2014 first-round pick Bruno Caboclo is working out with the Warriors. Hazan said that Caboclo is hopeful of an NBA contract and believes it will happen.

“He is training with Golden State until Thursday intending to get a contract. And he believes he will succeed,” Hazan told Israeli outlet Sports Channel.

However, Hazan also mentioned that the Brazilian native has an offer from Hapoel Tel Aviv and that “it is an option on the table.”

“At the same time, he is in talks with Hapoel Tel Aviv,” he added confirming an offer presented by the Israeli club, “We are making progress on a deal with Ofer Yannai (owner). It is an option on the table, definitely.”

Most recently, Caboclo played for Team Brazil during the 2024 Paris Olympics. With Brazil, he averaged 17.8 points on 69% from the field and 57.1% from the three-point line. Additionally, he averaged 7 rebounds and 2 blocks per game.

Bruno Caboclo NBA Career So Far

Cabocolo initially joined the NBA after the Toronto Raptors drafted him with the 20th pick in 2014. At the time, the drafting of Caboclo seemed like a stretch. However, then a 19-year-old, Cabocolo possessed a lot of potential. This never came to fruition for Toronto. Caboclo played parts of four seasons with the Raptors, appearing in 35 games and averaging 1.5 points and 1 rebound.

During the 2017-18 season, the Raptors traded Caboclo to the Sacramento Kings. He assumed a slightly larger role, but Caboclo still averaged just 2.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 10 games. Cabocolo joined the Memphis Grizzlies for the 2018-19 season, where he enjoyed his largest role yet. He appeared in 34 games for the team, starting 19 of them. On the year, he averaged 8.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1 block.

From 2019 to 2021, Cabocolo also spent time with the Houston Rockets. However, he only appeared in 14 total games for them.

What Bruno Caboclo Could Bring to the Warriors

The 28-year-old is very athletic and versatile. Although he is 6’9″, Caboclo is primarily a power forward/center. He may be undersized as a center, but with a 7’7″ wingspan, he can certainly hold his own. Additionally, he has improved as a perimeter scorer over the years.

For a team like the Warriors, they would benefit from adding another big man like Caboclo. He would be far from a guarantee to crack the rotation. However, at this stage in the offseason, signing him is a low-risk, high-reward move the Warriors should consider making.
