5 Former Boston Celtics Players Still Available in Free Agency

Wyc Grousbeck is putting the Celtics up for sale.

Just two months ago, the Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals to win their record 18th championship in history. This was their first title since 2008. This summer, the team did very little to add to their championship roster. They signed Baylor Scheierman and Anton Watson, but no other external move was made. The team did re-sign nearly all their players in free agency and offered contract extensions to numerous core pieces, however.

So far, all but two players from their championship roster are back on the books for next season. Svi Mykhailiuk signed with the Utah Jazz. Meanwhile, Oshae Brissett, who could still return to the Celtics at some point, is still a free agent. With Brissett’s name still on the market over a month into the start of the free agency period, it is a good time to look at the rest of the list and check in on a few faces Boston Celtics fans should be familiar with.

Oshae Brissett

Brissett declined his player option earlier this offseason in hopes of finding more playing time elsewhere. In his first season with the Celtics, the Syracuse alum averaged 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds in 55 games. However, he was a fan favorite and brought a lot of energy to the court. Brissett is likely going to find himself on an NBA team by the beginning of next season. Whether he returns to Boston or not remains unknown.

Jae Crowder

Jae Crowder spent parts of three seasons with the Celtics from 2014 to 2017. Initially brought in as part of the Rajon Rondo trade with the Dallas Mavericks, Crowder played some of the best basketball of his career in Boston. The Marquette alum appeared in 202 games for the team. In that time, he averaged 12.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He was also one of the best 3-and-D wings in the league while with the Celtics.

Most recently, he spent parts of the last two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, appearing in 50 games for the team last season.

Marcus Morris

In May, Marcus Morris torched the Celtics in Game 5 of the second round of this year’s playoffs with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Though his team lost, Morris scored 25 points on 10-for-13 shooting. This includes a 5-for-6 mark from the three-point line. Additionally, he recorded three rebounds and two steals. However, it was not too long ago that Morris was wearing green and white. The Kansas alum was with the Celtics from 2017 to 2019, averaging 13.8 points per game.

Evan Fournier

Evan Fournier‘s time with the Celtics was brief and forgettable. The French native played just 16 games for the team during the 2020-21 season. Since then, he has played for the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons. However, the 31-year-old remains a free agent despite winning a silver medal with France during the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Tristan Thompson

Tristan Thompson spent the 2020-21 season with the Celtics, appearing in 54 games. In those games, he averaged 7.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists. After news broke that Thompson will not return to the Cavaliers, nothing has been reported about a possible destination for the big man.
