Denver Nuggets Fantasy Basketball 2023-24 Season Review
Nikola Jokic
2023-24 NBA MVP Nikola Jokic had yet another dominant fantasy season. While he was ranked the number one overall category player by Basketball Monster for the past two years, he dropped two spots last season. Nevertheless, the six-time All-Star is still a consensus top-two pick in fantasy leagues. The center’s production across the board is elite, as is his availability. Managers know that they can count on Jokic to show up. He’s appeared in at least 70 contests in eight of his nine seasons, with his lowest number of games played being 69. Additionally, the former second-round pick was appreciated for his high field goal percentage, fourth-best rebounding and assists averages in the NBA, scoring ability, and steals. The 29-year-old’s blocks and free throw weren’t as profitable, but they were still solid. While Jokic wasn’t a great source of threes, his biggest weakness was turnovers.

Jamal Murray
Jamal Murray increased his fantasy ranking by nearly 50% from the 2022-23 season. The Canadian enjoyed a personal best finish in category leagues thanks to his versatile production. However, managers know his availability issues are the biggest risk of drafting him. The 27-year-old appeared in almost every game in the first three seasons of his career but missed large chunks of time over the past five years. This is the only glaring weakness in his game, as he doesn’t significantly lack in any categories. Murray’s strengths lie on the offensive end. He’s developed into a great playmaker and averaged a career-high in assists. He was also a good scorer who lit up from beyond the arc and converted foul shots at an efficient rate. His impact defensively wasn’t as prominent, but he was still decent. Notably, he averaged a career-high in blocks with close to one per game. The guard’s field goal percentage and turnovers weren’t as helpful.

Michael Porter Jr.
Injuries finally weren’t an issue for Michael Porter Jr. this season, who played all but one game in 2023-24. As a result, he posted top 75 category league value for the second time in his career. The small forward only thrived in a few categories, namely threes, rebounds, and turnovers. He ranked in the top 30 in the NBA in three-pointers made and recorded a personal second-best record in boards. He’s also never averaged more than 1.3 turnovers and came close to having less than one per game this past season. Offensively, almost 50% of Porter Jr.’s points come from threes, and his contribution in the points column is solid. He’s not well known for his passing, and so his impact in assists was minimal. Likewise, he wasn’t a good source of steals and was slightly better in blocks. While his shooting splits didn’t jump off the page, they weren’t harmful.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
Since joining the Nuggets in 2022-23, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope has hovered around the 100 mark in category fantasy rankings. None of his numbers stand out in a good or bad way, which plants his value in later rounds of drafts. Moreover, his ability to contribute something in most categories makes him more valuable in category leagues than points. His best assets were his ability to grab steals, limit turnovers, and convert shots at the charity stripe. Pope’s numbers across the rest of the board were not as beneficial. With Denver’s offensive arsenal, the 31-year-old had few opportunities to contribute points or assists. However, he could knock down some shots from beyond the arc and his overall efficiency from the floor was decent. The guard also didn’t have a big presence on the glass and was his least profitable category.

Aaron Gordon
Aaron Gordon just managed to crack the top 150 fantasy category rankings in 2023-24, though he was much more valuable in points leagues. He only offered numbers in certain categories, which included field goal percentage, turnovers, and rebounds. While his stats have declined over the past few years, Gordon posted close production to his best averages in these categories. Outside of those three columns, his numbers were sub-par. He didn’t have any sizeable contributions on the offensive end, but he provided some points and assists. His three-point scoring significantly dropped off from when he averaged a high of two and was the second-lowest of his career. Worst of all was his rough free-throw shooting, especially for someone who got to the line quite a bit. Defensively, he offered a few stocks but was not a consistent source of them.
