Former NBA Second Overall Pick Named BIG3 MVP

Michael Beasley was named MVP of the BIG3 for the 2024 season. The award was voted on by the players and coaches of the BIG3. The former Kansas State standout was the second overall pick by the Miami Heat in the 2008 NBA Draft. This actually isn’t the first time that Beasley has been named MVP of a basketball league. The six-foot-nine forward also was named the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) foreign MVP back in 2016.

Beasley Earns The 2024 BIG3 MVP, Playing In Championship Game

Now 35 years old, Beasley is currently a member of the BIG3’s 3’s Company. His team will be taking on Bivouac in the BIG3 Championship Game. The championship game is taking place on Sunday (along with the Celebrity Game) at 3 p.m. ET and is airing on CBS.

Beasley is a co-captain of the squad along with Mario Chalmers, a two-time NBA champion with the Heat. The head coach is 2024 Basketball Hall of Famer Michael Cooper who won five rings with the Los Angeles Lakers.

In his seven BIG3 outings this season, Beasley posted averages of 21.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 0.7 assists. His scoring average was second-highest in the league only behind Isaiah Briscoe of the Trilogy. Some notable players have previously taken home BIG3 MVP honors. Those include Joe Johnson, Corey Maggette, and Rashard Lewis.

Played 11 Seasons In The NBA

While he played just one season at Kansas State, Beasley proved to be an elite scorer at the college level. He was named the Big 12 Player of the Year as a freshman in 2007-08. He parlayed his magnificent freshman year into being selected second overall in the 2008 NBA Draft.

Some may see Beasley as a draft bust due to his high selection, but he was definitely a bucket-getter. His 11 NBA seasons were spent with the Heat (two stints), Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, Milwaukee Bucks, New York Knicks, and Lakers. He averaged double figures in scoring in his first five seasons and seven altogether. Beasley career-best scoring average of 19.2 points came in 2010-11 with Minnesota.

In 609 career regular season games (238 starts), Beasley posted averages of 12.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.3 assists. He shot 46.5% from the field, 34.9% from three-point territory, and 75.9% from the foul line. Beasley last played in the NBA in 2018-19 with the Lakers.

Other BIG3 Award Winners Announced

The other award winners announced were also voted on by the BIG3’s players and coaches. The 2024 BIG3 Defensive Player of the Year is Corey Brewer of the Bivouac. Brewer led the leagues in steals (1.6) while finished third in blocks (1.1) and rebounds (8.8). The 38-year-old spent 13 seasons in the NBA, last playing five games for the Sacramento Kings in 2019-20. He won a championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011.

The 2024 BIG3 Too Hard To Guard winner is Isaiah Briscoe. As previously mentioned, he led the league in scoring average with the Trilogy. He dropped 37 points in a game shattering the BIG3’s single-game scoring record. The 28-year-old Briscoe played one season in the NBA. That came in 2018-19 when he appeared in 39 games for the Orlando Magic.
