Chicago Bulls Fantasy Basketball 2023-24 Season Review

Chicago Bulls forward DeMar DeRozan (11) looks to pass the ball against the Atlanta Hawks during the first half at United Center.

To recap the 2023-24 fantasy basketball season, let’s review and analyze the impact players on the Chicago Bulls had.

Chicago Bulls Fantasy Basketball 2023-24 Season Review

DeMar DeRozan

With the Bulls down one star for most of the season, they depended on another to lead the team. Demar DeRozan shouldered most of the offensive load, being the only player to average 20+ points per game. He managed to do so even while averaging just under one three-pointer. While the guard/forward didn’t help much in that category, his average was the second-highest of his career and was the only stat he lacked. The 35-year-old’s best value came from free throw percentage, while he also had great contributions in points, assists, and steals. Also significant was his availability, missing only three games. The six-time All-Star has appeared in 70+ games in 11 of his 15 seasons and has never played under 60 games. DeRozan was a versatile, low-turnover player who could also provide some rebounds and blocks while converting shots from the field at a solid rate.

Nikola Vucevic

Nikola Vucevic was another anchor for the Bulls and helped support DeRozan. However, his ranking fell this year after placing in the top 30 in category leagues over the past three seasons. But the 33-year-old still maintained top-50 value and averaged a double-double of points and rebounds. While his points slightly increased from the past two seasons, his boards had minor dips and were the fourth-lowest average of his career. Nevertheless, they remained his best categories, and he also recorded nearly one block per game. The center was also a decent playmaker and didn’t commit many turnovers. He was a low-volume free-throw shooter but converted most of his shots at the line. Conversely, his field goal percentage was just over seven points down from the league average of centers in 2023-24. Vucevic’s production lacked in steals and threes, but he provided a few.

Alex Caruso

As the injuries piled up, Chicago also turned to Alex Caruso to step up. He ranked outside the top 100 in category leagues in his first two seasons with the Bulls, but in 2023-24, he jumped to have top-50 value. While he has been known to be injury-prone, the 30-year-old played a career-high 71 games in 2023-24 and started 57 of them. Caruso had more value in category leagues than points, as he contributed some numbers to various categories. The defensive-minded guard’s stats only stood out in stocks, namely steals, contributing almost three per game. Offensively, the 30-year-old’s value comes from low turnovers and threes. He can dish out a few assists and has decent efficiency from the floor and charity stripe. He just managed to average double-digit points but didn’t greatly impact the scoring column. While Caruso also didn’t grab many rebounds, he averaged the highest of his career.

  • Stats: 10.1 PPG, 3.5 APG, 3.8 RPG, 1.7 SPG, 1.0 BPG, 1.9 3PM, 1.4 TOV, 47/41/76, 71 GP

Zach LaVine

A big disappointment for fantasy managers and the Bulls was Zach LaVine, who appeared in the second-lowest matches of his career due to an injury. He initially hurt his foot in November and was sidelined for 17 games. He then reinjured it shortly after returning to action and elected to undergo season-ending surgery in February. The two-time All-Star posted top-50 value over the past three seasons but fell into the 80s in 2023-24 due to the injury. As a result, most of LaVine’s numbers ranked in the middle/near the bottom of his career stats. However, he did record career-highs in rebounds and free throw percentage. After playing 30% of the season, the guard/forward’s best contributions were free throw efficiency, threes, and points. He was decent in assists, turnovers, and rebounds. He didn’t offer much on the defensive end, averaging just one stock, and had a subpar field goal percentage.

  • Stats: 19.5 PPG, 3.9 APG, 5.2 RPG, 0.8 SPG, 0.3 BPG, 2.4 3PM, 2.1 TOV, 45/35/85, 25 GP

Coby White

Coby White was one of the biggest fantasy basketball breakouts of 2023-24, jumping nearly 100 spots in category rankings from the 2022-23 season. Thanks to his increased role, he started 78 games (his previous most was 54) and played almost 37 minutes per contest. The Most Improved Player candidate also averaged personal bests in points, assists, rebounds, threes, and field goal percentage. Most of White’s fantasy value came on the offensive end, namely in threes, dimes, points, and free throw percentage. His availability was another significant benefit, and he’s played at least 60 games in every one of his five seasons. However, his worst category was field goal percentage, as he converted under 40% of his shots in almost 40% of his games. Likewise, he was turnover-prone and his blocks were minimal, while his steals were slightly, but not much, better.

  • Stats: 19.1 PPG, 5.1 APG, 4.5 RPG, 0.7 SPG, 0.2 BPG, 2.6 3PM, 2.1 TOV, 45/38/84, 79 GP

Ayo Dosunmu

Another breakout player on the team was Ayo Dosunmu. He finished outside the top 200 in category leagues for the first two seasons of his career but placed inside the top 150 in his third year. The 24-year-old recorded career bests in points, steals, blocks, threes, and free-throw percentage while maintaining his turnovers to similar averages in previous seasons. Dosunmu achieved this while playing and starting the lowest number of games in his career. He’s been a model of availability, always appearing in at least 75 contests, and he took a leap this past season with the Bulls depending on him to fill the void left by injuries. While the shooting guard’s numbers weren’t eye-popping, his low turnovers and efficient shooting were valuable. Dosunmu also provided some threes, assists, steals, and blocks but didn’t offer many points or rebounds.

  • Stats: 12.2 PPG, 3.2 APG, 2.8 RPG, 0.9 SPG, 0.5 BPG, 1.6 3PM, 1.4 TOV, 50/40/81, 76 GP

Patrick Williams

Patrick Williams was coming off a season where he posted top 150 category league value, but this year, he was cut short after undergoing season-ending foot surgery in February. He posted similar numbers to his 2022-23 campaign, except his free throw and field goal percentage notably dropped. As a result, he still managed to rank in the top 175, but his impact and availability disappointed managers. Some appreciated the power forward for his few turnovers, decent stocks, and handful of threes, but not much else. While his efficiency at the charity stripe dropped nearly seven points from 2022-23, it was still decent. On the other hand, his field goal percentage wasn’t beneficial, as was his production in the primary categories.

  • Stats: 10.0 PPG, 1.5 APG, 3.9 RPG, 0.9 SPG, 0.8 BPG, 1.4 3PM, 1.3 TOV, 44/40/79, 43 GP
