The 2024 NBA Summer League MVP is Brooklyn Nets power forward Jalen Wilson. Wilson averaged 21.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1 assist in five games of Summer League action. Additionally, he shot 47.3% from the field and an impressive 55% from beyond the arc.

Brooklyn selected Wilson with the 51st pick of the 2023 NBA Draft. The Texas native split time with the Nets and their G League affiliate during his rookie season. With the NBA team, Wilson appeared in 43 games and started three of them. On the year, he averaged 5 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist over 15.4 minutes per game. Furthermore, he shot 42.5% from the field and 32.4% from the three-point line.

Wilson is the first Net to win the award. Additionally, he is the first second-round pick to win the award since Glen Rice Jr. won it in 2014.

Who Won the NBA Summer League MVP Award Before Jalen Wilson?

Wilson joins solid company as the most recent recipient of the Summer League MVP award. Since the award was announced in 2006, some of the top players in the league have earned the honor. This includes players stars like Blake Griffin, John Wall, and Damian Lillard. Additionally, many solid NBA players like Nate Robinson, Kyle Anderson, Tyus Jones, Lonzo Ball, and Josh Hart also won the award.

Most recently, Cam Whitmore of the Houston Rockets won the award in 2023. Furthermore, Keegan Murray, Davion Mitchell, Cam Thomas, and Brandon Clarke are the other players who have won it since 2019.

What’s Next for Jalen Wilson?

Recently, Wilson spoke about what his goals were for his second season in the NBA. The 23-year-old emphasized wanting to “compete” and “play hard” while learning “as much as I can.”

In March, the Nets converted Wilson’s two-way contract to a standard three-year deal. It is clear the Nets want Wilson to stick around for a while and be a part of their future. How much playing time he will get next season remains unclear. However, it would not be a surprise if he cracks their rotation and improves from his rookie season. Wilson showcased his potential during the Summer League and was solid in the minutes he received last season. He has a good jumpshot and can help stretch the floor for Brooklyn as a power forward. It will be interesting to see how much more of Wilson we will see during the regular season.
