NBA Free Agency: Spurs Sign 12-Time All-Star Guard
The Point God
Paul has had one of the greatest careers in NBA history. He is a 12-time All-Star an 11-time All-NBA member, a nine-time All-Defense member, and the 2008 MVP runner-up. CP3 has career averages of 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 9.4 assists. Paul is one of the best passers of all time. Notably, he has the most assists of any active player and the third most of all-time. Additionally, Paul had five seasons where he led the league in assists.
Over his 19-year career, Paul has played for six different franchises the New Orleans Hornets, the Clippers, the Rockets, the Thunder, the Suns, and the Warriors. This makes San Antonio Paul’s seventh team in his illustrious career. Paul’s best years were with the Hornets where he was second in MVP voting in 2008 and the “Lob City” era Clippers with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. However, Paul’s lone NBA Finals appearance came with the Suns in 2021.
A Perfect Fit With The Spurs
Paul fits like a glove with the Spurs as a playmaker and veteran leader. Crucially, the Spurs desperately needed playmaking next to Wembanyama. Cp3 will help further elevate Wembanyama’s offensive game while being a great mentor to him. The pick-and-roll game and lob opportunities are particularly exciting for this pairing. Playing with and helping develop a future all-time great makes the Spurs an ideal landing spot for Paul. According to Chris Haynes Gregg Popovich’s culture was also a motivating factor for Paul to sign with the Spurs. This is logical as Popovich is one of the greatest coaches of all time.

Furthermore, Paul will serve as a great mentor for recently drafted guard Stephon Castle. Paul will show Castle what it takes to be a successful guard in the NBA this will especially help Castle develop as a playmaker. Ultimately the Chris Paul Spurs signing is ideal for all sides.
