NBA Free Agency: Sixers Looking For Shooters

The Sixers are targeting Klay Thompson.

The 2024 NBA Draft wrapped up yesterday and in two days the free agency period begins. There should be a lot of movement for all 30 teams in the NBA. Especially, for the Philadelphia 76ers who should be one of the most active teams this offseason. Additionally, the Sixers seem to be interested in acquiring shooters who can fit next to Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid. Philly’s title hopes will rely on finding players who can take advantage of wide-open shots and play some defense.

NBA Free Agency: Sixers Looking For Shooters

Brandon Ingram

According to Yahoo Sports Jake Fisher Philly is showing interest in acquiring Brandon Ingram from the New Orleans Pelicans. Acquiring him would be a second option if Paul George decides to either stay with the Los Angeles Clippers or go somewhere else. Additionally, Ingram would be a really good option for Philly, he is only 26 years old and in a contract year. Whoever acquires him would probably get the best version of him as he is trying to get paid.

Ingram flourished with the Pelicans last year he scored 20.8 points per game, made 49.2% from the field, and made 35.5% from three-point range. His three-point percentage should increase playing next to Embiid and Maxey, who create a lot of high-percentage shooting opportunities for their teammates. Also, Ingram can create his own shot which is a very valuable resource for a Sixers team starving for shot creators. The only knock on his game so far is his ability to play defense.  That should definitely improved by spending a full season being coached up by Nick Nurse. Ultimately acquiring Ingram seems like a logical and affordable option for the Sixers.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope

Another player who has been associated with the Sixers for the past few months is Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Yesterday, he opted out of his contract and decided to test free agency. Additionally, he is an ideal player who can either play the two or the three positions and can shut players down defensively. Crucially, he brings the veteran and championship experience the Sixers are looking for.

KCP averaged 10.1 points per game and made 40.5% from the three-point line. That three-point percentage would have made him the third-best three-point shooter on Philly’s roster. KCP is a knockdown shooter who is an ideal fit and the type of player Philly is looking for. His scoring average will only increase playing next to Maxey and Embiid if the Sixers can sign him.

Klay Thompson

Philly should have a plethora of options with close to 61.3 million dollars to spend in free agency. As a result, one player that they should take a look at is Klay Thompson. Despite the fact he is not the same player that he was after tearing his ACL and Achilles, Thompson is still one of the best shooters the NBA has ever seen. Thompson would also have more room to operate playing next to two of the most dominant players in the league. Thompson like KCP brings that championship experience to the Sixers locker room if acquired. Furthermore, he is willing to do whatever takes to win another championship. That makes him the perfect player to add to a Sixers locker room that is lacking that dog mentality.

Overall, this will be one of the most successful offseason in Sixers history. If they are able to get at least two out of three of these shooting options with all the money they have to spend.
