There has been movement all across College Basketball during the off-season. Familiar faces in new places are the common theme for many of these. Big 12 basketball fills up with new faces for the 2024-2025 season. Let’s take a look at where some of the most impactful transfers landed:
Big 12 Basketball fills up with new faces for 2024-2025
-
Tucker DeVries, West Virginia Mountaineers
Tucker DeVries was the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year twice during his time at Drake. He came over to the Mountaineers with his father as the head coach. DeVries scored more than 21 points per game for the Bulldogs a season ago and is a big-time offensive threat. DeVries shoots nearly 36% from downtown, so he will give an immediate shot in the arm to the West Virginia offense.
-
AJ Storr, Kansas Jayhawks
The rich got a bit richer. The former Wisconsin Badgers forward is a six-foot-six, athletic wing. AJ Storr‘s size allows him to finish at the rim. He scored just shy of 17 points per game. Now, mixed with some other big-time playmakers and scorers at Kansas, he looks to be in good shape for a monster season. Storr shot the ball nearly 44% at Wisconsin.
-
Norchad Omier, Baylor Bears
A true Baylor Bear, Norchad Omier brings physicality to the game and has a shooting touch at the rim. He is a big-time rebounder, which is something Scott Drew will love in Waco. Omier scored 17 points per game and ripped down 10 rebounds at Miami. He also shot the ball nearly 60% from the field. Omier can also step back and shoot the three-pointer if you leave him open.
-
Jeremy Roach, Baylor Bears
Another ACC to Big 12 transfer. Jeremey Roach comes over from Duke. He spent two seasons playing for Jon Scheyer. Roach was a three-time all-ACC last season scoring 14.4 points per game for the Blue Devils. His experience will be a huge factor, as he has over 100 starts under his belt, and will make the loss of RayJ Dennis much easier for the Bears.
-
Coleman Hawkins, Kansas State Wildcats
One of the last additions to the Big 12 rosters, but also one of the most impactful. Coleman Hawkins helped his Illini team to the Elite 8 a season ago. He scored more than 12 points per game and made nearly 37% from downtown. One of the best defensive players in the country. He can stretch it on offense and guard anyone on defense.
-
Rylan Griffen, Kansas Jayhawks
Rylan Griffen played for Nat Oats at Alabama a season ago. He was a great spark plug for the Crimson Tide. He started 33 games as a sophomore and made nearly 40% from downtown. Griffen scored just shy of 11.5 points per game. With the losses of Kevin McCullar Jr and Johnny Furphy, Griffen is going to fit right into the role of top shooter on the squad.
-
JT Toppin, Texas Tech Red Raiders
JT Toppin is a 6’9 monster who played at New Mexico a season ago. His brother is Obi Toppin, who plays in the NBA. He was named the Mountain West Rookie of the Year a season ago with 12.4 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. The Red Raiders are getting a guy that is eligible for the next three seasons.
-
Dug McDaniel, Kansas State Wildcats
Dug McDaniel was one of the best players on a bad Michigan team a season ago. He scored 16.3 points per game and dished out 4.7 assists per game. McDaniel is very small, but a great defender. The Wildcats needed upgrades at the point guard position, and this is one that should do it.
Others in Consideration:
- Arthur Kaluma, Kansas State
- Zeke Mayo, Kansas
- Javon Small, West Virginia
- Dillon Mitchell, Cincinnati
- Milos Uzan, Houston
- Elijah Hawkins, Texas Tech
- Frankie Collins TCU
Those eight are all going to play big-time roles in their team’s success this season. With these players added to already-loaded rosters, and the additions of some new teams, this is going to be a fun 2024-2025 basketball season in the Big 12!
