On the most recent episode of his podcast (NSFW), The Pat Bev Podcast, Milwaukee Bucks guard Patrick Beverley revealed he will require surgery due to a torn ligament in his wrist. Beverley missed the Bucks’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, his former team, on Tuesday. According to Beverley, he suffered the injury before Sunday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Beverley said the expected recovery timeline for his surgery is 3-4 months. It appears the guard is prepared to hold off and do the surgery once the season is over. However, it should be noted nothing is official. The Bucks currently have a 46-26 record and own the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. According to Basketball Reference, the team has a 64% probability of remaining the No. 2 seed heading into the postseason.

Patrick Beverley’s Impact On the Milwaukee Bucks

The 35-year-old began the season with the Philadelphia 76ers before the team traded him to the Bucks at the 2024 NBA Trade Deadline. In 19 games played with the team, Beverley is averaging 5.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. The Bucks brought him in to add depth and defense to the team, which he has done up to this point. A few weeks ago, Bucks star Damian Lillard spoke highly of Beverley’s presence on the team:

As an opponent, you hate him when you’re playing against him, but on your team, You’d probably love to have someone like that. He brings edge to the team… You gotta have some type of belief, toughness, edge. He brings that to our team and we didn’t have a lot of that.

If Beverley does end up missing any games for the Bucks, the team would lose a lot of its toughness and intensity, something they definitely need for the postseason.

Why Patrick Beverley’s Possible Absence Matters

Beverley is not an essential part of Milwaukee’s core. However, since acquiring him, the team has progressed in the right direction. They look like a much more polished team on both sides of the court. Losing Beverley at a time when they are getting their rhythm back could cause chaos in the postseason. This is especially true considering Milwaukee is relatively thin in the backcourt. Outside of Lillard and Beverly, the only official point guards the team has rostered are TyTy Washington and Ryan Rollins, who are both on two-way contracts.

The Last Word

Nothing is official regarding Beverley’s injury. The guard has made it clear he wants to continue playing. However, risking a more serious injury at this point in the season is not a smart move. It would not be a shocking move for the Bucks to rest him or shorten his minutes as the regular season winds down.
