One of the final games on Friday’s NCAA Tournament slate features No. 13 Charleston (27-7) taking on No. 4 Alabama (21-11). It’s fair to expect a shootout — the SEC powerhouse ranks No. 1 in the nation in points per game, while the Cougars aren’t far behind at No. 35.

Alabama is certainly vulnerable in the NCAA Tournament due to its woeful defense, but I’m not as concerned about that becoming an issue against Charleston. The Cougars aren’t much on that end of the floor themselves, and although nearly half of their field goal attempts are three-pointers, they aren’t particularly efficient from deep.
There’s also something to be said about beating the teams you should, and the Crimson Tide did exactly that this season. Their “worst” loss came against Ohio State, which earned a No. 2 seed in the NIT.
The 13-4 matchup has become a trendy spot to pick upsets, but I don’t see one happening here. I’m not optimistic about Alabama going on a deep run, but the blueprint is there for a comfortable victory over Charleston.
