The Vols probably won’t have to be on upset alert, but there’s no doubt they aren’t playing their best basketball this time of the year. Plus, the Peacocks are a stingy squad that are 12th in points-against per game (63.4) and is tied with Drake for 75th in the nation in adjusted-defensive efficiency (100.9) per KenPom.

The Volunteers rank third in that stat category, despite allowing about 68 points per game this season. Rick Barnes has always coached his teams to be better defensively than on offense, but the Vols are averaging about 80 points per game, led by SEC Player of the Year Dalton Knecht and his 21.1 points per game).

There’s not a single Peacocks player that was on the roster for their Elite 8 in 2022, and St. Peter’s coach Bashir Mason was across the Bayonne Bridge leading Wagner College at the time.
