The Cyclones (27-7, 13-5 Big XII) won the conference tournament for the fifth time in the past decade and are back in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in the past five years. Iowa State has qualified for the second weekend three times in that span but hasn’t advanced beyond the Sweet 16 since Larry Eustachy’s team fell in the regional final to eventual-champion Michigan State in 2000.
The Jackrabbits (22-12, 12-4 Summit) are making their second March Madness appearance in the past three seasons. SDSU lost to Providence in the first round in 2022.

Still, the Cyclones are a bona fide national contender, battle tested from playing in the consensus best conference in college basketball this year. They’ll get tested down the road but should dodge any March Madness shenanigans in the first round.
