Anthony Edwards has big plans for the 2024 Paris Olympics, as reported by Shams Charania on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back”.
The Minnesota Timberwolves guard’s aim is to not only be a part of the acclaimed roster, but to lock down a starting role at the tournament.
“He’s someone that’s been described to me as someone who will be on the 2024 USA Basketball Olympic team in Paris…I’m told Anthony Edwards fully wants to go to and compete to start on this team. The competitiveness, the spirit, that Anthony Edwards brings night to night is truly something special.”

Anthony Edwards at the World Cup for Team USA
Edwards was perhaps the star player of the infamous USA World Cup team in 2023. Despite being a heavy favorite to win the tournament, Edwards and the USA came up remarkably short, losing in the semifinals to Germany.
Throughout the World Cup, Edwards averaged 18.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists throughout eight games.
Anthony Edwards in 2023-24
Edwards is in the midst of yet another impressive NBA campaign, with his Minnesota squad entrenched as one of the challengers for the top seed in the Western Conference.
The fourth-year guard out of Georgia is averaging 26.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists. His shooting numbers have improved with every season he’s played, and this year is no different. The 22 year-old is shooting 46.7% from the field, while connecting on 37% of his three-point attempts. He was named to his second successive NBA All-Star team in 2024.
Edwards’ highlight dunks reel is already on par with some of the league’s best. Just last night, Edwards put the NBA world on notice with perhaps the dunk of the year. During Minnesota’s 119-100 victory over the Utah Jazz, Edwards soared to put John Collins on a vicious poster.

Timberwolves Fighting for Top Seed
The Timberwolves previously held the #1 seed in the West for the majority of the season. Various factors have led to them slipping down to second in the conference for the time being.
Fellow Timberwolves All-Star Karl-Anthony Towns suffered a left knee lateral meniscus tear, and is likely set to miss the rest of the regular season. The Timberwolves released a statement last week regarding the former Kentucky star’s injury, communicating that Towns “will be re-evaluated in four weeks and further updates on his progress will be provided when available”.
Minnesota is 0.5 games back of the first-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder, led by MVP frontrunner Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
The Timberwolves host a crucial matchup against the Denver Nuggets tonight. Both teams share identical records, with Edwards and the Timberwolves holding a 1-0 season series lead.
