Over a decade after playing his final NBA game, Basketball Hall of Famer and Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson is getting a new documentary. The documentary will air on Prime Video, who confirmed that Shaquille O’Neal‘s and Stephen Curry‘s companies will produce the documentary.

Iverson put out a statement following the announcement of the documentary:

“I’m ready to tell my story my way, authentic and unapologetically,” Iverson said in a statement. “I look forward to people seeing a side of me they haven’t seen before.”

Additionally, O’Neal, who played against Iverson’s 76ers in the 2001 NBA Finals, talked about the guard’s cultural impact:

Allen was a pioneer in the world of sports and entertainment. His cultural impact was bigger than basketball, and this documentary sets out to properly define his legacy.

In 2010, ESPN released a 30 For 30 documentary titled No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson. However, Iverson himself did not participate in the documentary.

Currently, it is unknown when this documentary will come out.

Allen Iverson Career

Iverson is an NBA legend who played 14 seasons in the NBA. Though he is most known for his time in Philadelphia, Iverson also played for the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies. In his career, “the Answer” averaged 26.7 points, 6.2 assists, and 2.2 steals per game. Additionally, the former No. 1 pick of the 1996 NBA Draft has an extensive list of accolades. In addition to his Hall of Fame induction, Iverson was a one-time MVP, an 11-time All-Star, a seven-time All-NBA selection, a four-time scoring champion, and a three-time steal champion among other accolades. Furthermore, Iverson is considered one of the greatest NBA players in league history without a championship. In 2014, the 76ers retired Iverson’s iconic No. 3 jersey.

On April 12, the 76ers will create an Iverson sculpture at the team’s training complex. At the time of the announcement, franchise owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer sang their praises for the former MVP:

Allen Iverson is one of the greatest 76ers to ever live and one of the most iconic players in the history of the NBA, and we’re thrilled to honor his accomplishments.

The Last Word

Iverson is one of the most fascinating athletes in NBA history. In addition to being one of the most fun players to watch and model your game after, Iverson’s upbringing and story before making it big is interesting. With Iverson directly involved in the documentary, there is little reason to think it won’t be worth watching. Though no release date has been confirmed yet, many fans in the basketball world will likely anticiapte this upcoming documentary.
