Celtics Documentary

Team owner Wyc Grousbeck went on The Greg Hill Show this morning to reveal the exciting news about the upcoming Celtics documentary.

The Celtics documentary will follow one of the most polarizing teams in the NBA. Along with the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston has won 17 championships: a league record. However, they haven’t reached the pinnacle since 2008.

After a disappointing 2022-23 campaign in which they came up short in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat, Boston decided to reload its roster for 2023-24.

Kristaps Porziņģis and Jrue Holiday were brought in, while parting ways with Malcolm Brogdon, Marcus Smart, Grant Williams, and Robert Williams III.

The Celtics have been dominant to start the year, and fans will be raring to see the behind-the-scenes unfold on the big screen.

Celtics Documentary Inspirations:

Sports documentaries have enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years, especially ones that follow an athlete or team throughout a specific season.

ESPN’s “The Last Dance”, which aired during the start of the coronavirus pandemic, broke all ESPN docuseries records, averaging 5.6 million viewers across 10 episodes. Netflix’s “Formula 1: Drive to Survive” followed this up with massive success, as the sport continues to grow among American viewers.

Multiple Netflix shows have looked to replicate this formula:

“Break Point” details the grueling season of the best male and female tennis players in the world.

“Full Swing” follows some of the top golfers on the PGA Tour.

“Quarterbacks” is a series centered around three NFL quarterbacks during the 2022 season: Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins, and Atlanta’s Marcus Mariota.

Amazon Prime Video has also capitalized on the sports docuseries genre, with “All or Nothing”. The show has various editions across different sports, following major soccer teams such as Manchester City, Arsenal, and Tottenham. Also featured are the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team.

Celtics All-Star Weekend:

The Celtics are 43-12, heading into the All-Star break with the best record in the NBA. Boston is well-represented at the All-Star festivities in Indianapolis this weekend.

Jayson Tatum will be making his fifth All-Star appearance, and his second starting selection in a row. Tatum was named the MVP of the 2023 All-Star Game, after scoring a record 55 points.

Jaylen Brown will be joining him in the Eastern Conference All-Star team. This will mark his third All-Star selection. He will also be participating in the 2024 AT&T Slam Dunk Contest.

Title Favorites:

The Celtics are considered to be one of the main contenders for the 2024 NBA championship. On BetMGM, Boston is currently listed as the favorite to win the title at +260 odds.
