Per the latest NBA Rumors, the Minnesota Timberwolves may be interested in two veteran point guards ahead of this year’s NBA Trade Deadline. The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski recently wrote that Minnesota has Dennis Schroder of the Toronto Raptors and Kyle Lowry of the Charlotte Hornets “on the radar“:
Toronto’s Dennis Schröder and Kyle Lowry, who was recently traded from Miami to Charlotte, and likely will be moving on via trade or buyout are two other names on the radar. Finch coached Lowry for half of a season in Toronto before he was hired to take over in Minnesota.

The 35-15 Timberwolves are playing great basketball and share the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Although they have a good team as is, it would make sense for Minnesota to boost their team for a second-half playoff push.
This year’s NBA Trade Deadline is on Thursday, February 8, just two days away.
NBA Rumors: Timberwolves Monitoring 2 Veteran Point Guards
Kyle Lowry
This season, Lowry is averaging 8.2 points and 4 assists per game while shooting 42.6% from the field. Statistically, this is Lowry’s worst season since his 2008-09 campaign. On January 23, the Miami Heat traded Lowry to the Miami Heat in exchange for Terry Rozier. Since then, Lowry has not played in a game as he has not suited up for the Hornets. As expected, reports are indicating the Hornets are trying to ship the 37-year-old back out. According to Marc Stein, “several teams” are interested in Lowry:
The Charlotte Hornets are continuing to look to re-trade Kyle Lowry, sources told Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
Lowry has been linked with several teams should he get bought out, including the Sixers, Lakers, and Magic.
Stein adds that the Sixers still have interest in signing Lowry should he get bought out despite the uncertainty surrounding Joel Embiid‘s injury.
The 2023-24 season is Lowry’s last under contract. Furthermore, there is a chance this is the final season he will play in the NBA. Lowry is a former NBA champion and has been in the league since 2006. This experience may make him valuable to the Timberwolves and their locker room.
Dennis Schroder
In 50 games with the Toronto Raptors this season, Schroder is averaging 13.6 points and 6.2 assists per game. Schroder has been a good player for Toronto in his first season there. However, the Raptors recently acquired Immanuel Quickly from the Knicks, forcing the 30-year-old to take a bit of a backseat in the rotation. In fact, per reports, Schroder was not happy coming off the bench even before the team acquired Quickley:
Schroeder wasn’t exactly happy with the decision to bring him off the bench prior to the trade, according to sources. One of the reasons he signed with the Raptors in free agency this past summer was the prospect of having his own team to run after coming off the bench for the Los Angeles Lakers last season and the Boston Celtics the season before that.
Currently, Mike Conley is Minnesota’s starting point guard. However, it would be interesting to see if Schroder takes his starting spot or if the team trades Conley to land the German native.
