NBA Rumors: 76ers Are Going to Be Aggressive at Trade Deadline

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid (21) and guard Tyrese Maxey (0) during a timeout in the second quarter against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Wells Fargo Center.

According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst, the Philadelphia 76ers are going to be aggressive at the trade deadline. They’ll likely make a move for a star to strengthen their squad, and they have several options to explore.

“The only contender (in the top three of the standings) I can confidently forecast will be aggressive is Philly,” Windhorst said.

NBA Rumors: 76ers Are Going to Be Aggressive at Trade Deadline

Windhorst has correctly predicted several trades and free-agent destinations in the past. This time, he is expecting the Sixers to be key players in the 2024 trade deadline. With the assets and trade pieces acquired during the blockbuster James Harden trade, Philadelphia has more than enough ammunition to go out and make a deal. However, the question remaining is which player, or type of player, fits best around Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and company.

Who Could the Sixers Trade For?

Pascal Siakam is one name being linked with the Sixers in recent news. Siakam is an interesting trade prospect. The Toronto Raptors seem to be keen on cashing in on him before the trade deadline on February 8 while his value is high. On the other hand, how he fits in with the team from an on-the-court-court perspective is up for debate. He is a big man who wants the ball, which could see him clash with Embiid, who demands the ball in similar areas.

Another name that has recently surfaced on the Sixers’ possible wish list is Dejounte Murray. The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly looking to reshape their roster and are interested in acquiring a two-way star. Several of the Hawks’ current players could be seen as viable options for teams that are contending this year, and the team is looking to be sellers. Murray is on the radar of several teams around the league already. But the Sixers could see him as a possible upgrade at the second guard position.

Early Trade Rumors Have Cooled Off, but They Could Soon Make More Noise

Some players who were mentioned as potential targets early in the season now seem to be out of consideration.  Chicago Bulls star Zach LaVine was widely reported to be monitored by the Sixers front office. Now, it’s believed that Philly is no longer interested.

However, Philadelphia has been closely monitoring the star player market across the NBA ever since their trade with the Los Angeles Clippers. Should they decide after all this time that LaVine is still the best option to bolster their squad, don’t be surprised if a deal materializes. If the 76ers are going to be aggressive at the trade deadline, as expected, some surprises could be in store.
