In a year of high expectations for the Villanova Wildcats, they brought in former team great Corey Fisher to their coaching staff. Fisher will be taking a role in the student-athlete development portion of the basketball team. Kyle Neptune gleamed over the addition of Fisher. Corey Fisher’s Background
Fisher was an incredible player for the Wildcats. He was a solid player with a career average of 12.1 points per game. Fisher amassed 1672 points during his career in Pennsylvania. He was also top-eight in career assists with 487. Fisher was an all-around guard who produced big plays for this Wildcat team. Furthermore, he received accolades and made the Second-Team All-Big East in his senior season.
He also enjoyed a career overseas as well. He played over in Europe from 2011-2023, joining the staff of Villanova just this past week. This past season with Vichy Clermont, he produced 9.2 points and 2.8 assists while shooting 51.3% from two-point range.
His Addition to the Wildcats
Fisher is an excellent addition to the Wildcats because he is an example of a player who improved over his four seasons. He had his best season in his senior year. He improved his scoring, passing, steals per game, and free-throw percentage. Fisher fits the student-athlete development role well because he understands how to develop a student-athlete’s experience. He was an Honor Roll award recipient as a student in addition to his basketball accolades, so he helps the Wildcats in this area.
More importantly, he brings winning experience. While he did not win a National Championship, he got to the NCAA Tournament every year and won games in the Big East. He was a great player who produced big plays in his career. His production and experience playing in a tough Big East Conference is a plus for the players.
The Last Word on Corey Fisher
Fisher had an impressive college and overseas professional career. He makes a fine addition to the Villanova staff, as his experience will help the players improve this season. With expectations placed on this Wildcat team, Neptune did a good job hiring Fisher to help manage them.
