A Celebration Of A Sports Life For Magic Johnson

A Luxurious Past Ready For A Bright Future

Since the day the word “Magic” came to be the world knew the sky was the limit for Johnson. Magic helped Michigan State win its first National Championship in 1979.

The win turned into one of the most famous games to date as Johnson had his first real competition against Larry Bird. The historic rivalry became a catalyst in which many believed saved the NBA.

Selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the 1979 draft, the Los Angeles Lakers had no idea what they were getting. No one except the late great owner Dr. Jerry Buss.

In 1981, after Johnson helped the Lakers hoist their first NBA championship in eight years, Buss signed Johnson to a 25-year $25 million contract. The next 10 years of his career went on to be one of the most spectacular the league has ever seen.

When Johnson retired, he racked up five NBA championships, three finals MVP trophies, three regular season MVP trophies and became a member of the NBA 75th anniversary team. However, he also grew a lifelong friendship with his on court rival Bird.

Present Day Magic Johnson Has Not Stopped Working

Although his basketball career is over, a new sports life has been in the works. Johnson has ownership stake in the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Sparks and the Los Angeles Football Club.

During his time as owner, he won a ring with all three of his teams. Now, Johnson owns a part ownership stake in the Washington Commanders.

If history were to repeat itself, the Commanders can win their first Super Bowl since 1992. A lot of work needs to be done, but it seems anything Johnson gets his hands on turns into Magic.

The resumé continues to build for Johnson. Perhaps one day fans will see Johnson have a hand in a hockey team.
