The NBA 2K24 video game recently released its player ratings going into next season (except for rookies, which have yet to be revealed). Most of the player ratings were fair. However, these three players seemed “snubbed” as their ratings were too low compared to their actual value.
The good news? The game updates players’ ratings accordingly throughout the season based on their recent performances. Let’s explore the statistics and why these players deserve more recognition in NBA 2K24.
NBA 2K24 Ratings: 3 Players Who Were Snubbed
NBA 2K24 Snub No. 1: Jamal Murray, Denver Nuggets
Rating: 84 overall, 59th amongst current NBA players, and 17th amongst point guards.
One of the notable snubs was NBA Champion Jamal Murray, who received an overall rating of 84. Murray himself certainly noticed the rating and voiced his displeasure on Twitter.
Ain’t no way my rating that low! How is that possible??
— Jamal Murray (@BeMore27) July 11, 2023
Despite his impressive playoff performance as Nikola Jokic‘s co-star, which resulted in Denver’s first-ever NBA Championship, Murray was ranked 59th among all current NBA players and was placed 17th among point guards.
In addition to finishing the season as an NBA Champion, Murray’s 2022-23 regular season statistics showcase his impact on the court. He averaged 20.0 points, 6.2 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game on 45/40 shooting splits.
Overall, Murray’s statistics in the regular season and throughout Denver’s historic playoff run indicate that his overall rating in NBA 2K24 doesn’t fully reflect his skills and impact on the court. He should be ranked closer to a top-ten point guard rather than coming in at 17th.
Snub No. 2: Alex Caruso, Chicago Bulls
Rating: 76 overall, 237th amongst current NBA players, and 45th amongst point guards.
Another snub was two-way guard Alex Caruso. In the 2022-23 season, Caruso averaged 5.6 points, 2.9 assists, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.5 steals on 46/36/81 shooting splits. Despite his relatively low NBA 2K24 rating and modest statistics, Caruso’s contributions on the court can’t be overlooked. He’s a winner who does the intangibles outside of scoring, particularly on the defensive end.
Caruso’s defensive prowess was evident last season, with an impressive average of 1.5 steals per game, showcasing his ability to disrupt opponents and generate turnovers. His RAPTOR rating is another statistic supporting his elite defensive skills and ability to contribute to winning. Defensively, Caruso is around a six, which, for context, was the highest total amongst all NBA players last season. It was an entire point higher than the second-best rating, Brook Lopez, at five.
Caruso’s ability to contribute in various aspects of the game makes his lower overall rating in NBA 2K24 questionable, as he’s a player who provides significant value on both ends of the court.
Snub No. 3: Nicolas Batum, Los Angeles Clippers
Rating: 74 overall, 343rd amongst current NBA players, and 74th amongst power forwards.
Last season, Nicolas Batum averaged 6.1 points, 1.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 0.7 steals on 42/39/71 shooting splits. Another factor to consider with Batum is that he only averaged 21.9 minutes per game last season, skewing his statistics. Like Caruso, his stats don’t jump off the page. However, he’s another player who contributes to winning.
Batum’s a 34-year-old veteran and the type of player you’d love to have on your team as a role player come playoff time. He’s a great floor spacer, as evidenced by his 39 percent three-point clip from last season. He’s also an underrated passer and is someone you can’t seem to speed up; he consistently makes the proper read. Batum isn’t the quickest, especially at his age. But his six-foot-eight frame gives him the ideal size as a modern-day stretch four.
Combine his shooting with his size, high IQ, and veteran experience, and Batum should be higher than a 74 overall in NBA 2K24 due to his well-rounded game. Put it this way – there are not 73 other power forwards that teams would pick over Batum going into next season.
