Lakers 2nd Pre-Draft Workout Group
Guards
Nadir Hifi – France
Cam Shelton – LMU
Terquavion Smith – NC State
Forwards
Jalen Wilson – Kansas
Morris Udeze – New Mexico
Oscar Tshiebwe – Kentucky
In round two of the NBA Draft, the Lakers have the 47th pick overall. Two names experts think could be in the running for the Lakers at this pick are forward Oscar Tshiebwe from Kentucky. In addition, guard Terquavion Smith from NC State. Tshiebwe is a 6’9″ power forward known for his rebounding and physicality, while Smith is a 6’4″ point guard known for his defensive tenacity.
Both players have big upsides and could benefit from playing in the second unit. Los Angeles’ backcourt rotation is already limited, but Smith could be a useful asset if he develops his shooting. Meanwhile, Tshiebwe’s imposing presence and length could be a very valuable addition to the bench.
Oscar Tshiebwe averaged 16.9 points, 14.4 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.3 blocks in 66 games
First-team All-ACC Player of the Year Terquavion Smith scored 17.9 points per game
Regardless of how the ball drops, Tshiebwe and Smith are both works in progress. However, there is no guarantee they will get the chance to develop those skills in the Lakers’ system.
Kyrie Irving vs the Field
With news circulating around the league regarding the Lakers’ future, there is no certainty at the point guard position. Free agent Kyrie Irving recently reached out to Superstar LeBron James about the possibility of a reunion back in Dallas to form a BIG three.
James chose to move to Los Angeles to finish his career. Many experts around the league do not see them leaving to join Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic in Dallas.
The idea of Irving, James, and Doncic on the same team seems good on paper. But it remains to be seen if they can coexist on the court. They would need to develop the chemistry needed to succeed at the highest level to win an NBA championship.
