Two Los Angeles Lakers Trade Ideas

LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, simply put, were not happy with their outcomes last season. They missed the playoffs after winning the championship just two years ago. The Russell Westbrook mega-trade didn’t work out as planned while Anthony Davis dealt with constant injuries. Frank Vogel is now gone as well, replaced by Darvin Ham as head coach.

The Lakers have already been quite busy this offseason. Patrick Beverley was acquiredDennis Schroder recently signed a deal. Before those two moves, however, the Lakers’ offseason was largely underwhelming. There are still some moves that can be done.

Los Angeles Lakers Trade Ideas

Dealing With the Utah Jazz Again

Los Angeles Lakers receive Mike Conley and Bojan Bogdanovic.

Utah Jazz receive Russell Westbrook, the Lakers’ 2027 first-round pick and 2023 second-round pick.

The Jazz are in a clear rebuilding mode. They already sent Beverley to the Lakers, but also sent Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Donovan Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers. They’re looking to shed some of their contracts and gain future assets.

The Lakers are already showing their desire to move on from Westbrook at point guard as they brought Beverley and Schroder in. This deal allows them to change their playing style while keeping strong guard depth with Conley. Conley is a true veteran and remains a talented player. He would mesh well alongside James and Davis. Bogdanovic is a major acquisition too. He’s an offensive flamethrower and contributes well defensively too. James needs shooters around him, and Bogdanovic brings that. An ideal starting lineup for the Lakers can feature Conley, Beverley, James, Bogdanovic, and Davis with decent bench play from Schroder, Austin ReavesThomas Bryant, and more.

Utah takes in Westbrook’s massive contract, but it will expire come next summer. If anything, Westbrook has shown an ability to thrive alongside younger players in the past. Perhaps a move to Utah will allow him to mentor others. The Jazz also bring in more draft picks into their treasure chest.

Another Major Trade for the Los Angeles Lakers

Los Angeles Lakers receive Terry Rozier and Gordon Hayward.

Charlotte Hornets receive Russell Westbrook, Kendrick Nunn, the Lakers’ 2027 first-round pick, and 2023 second-round pick.

This trade is similar to the last in terms of the kind of players being brought into Los Angeles. In addition, the Hornets have been weakened due to off-the-court concerns. They may look to shed salary to rebuild next summer with star LaMelo Ball.

Rozier is a fantastic offensive guard to bring in for the Lakers. A rotating duo between him and Schroder will give the team plenty of scoring options, while Beverley holds down the fort defensively. It presents a solid backcourt and a major upgrade to what the Lakers had last season. Hayward struggles with injuries, but he’s a proven star. If healthy, Hayward will contribute greatly in a frontcourt alongside James and Davis.

Charlotte sheds salary in preparation for next summer, but also adds Westbrook to a backcourt with Ball. The fit is questionable, but it could be exciting. The Hornets also, of course, gain future assets.
