Searching for a New Lakers Coach

Management is searching for a new Lakers coach to raise the team back into contention. The Los Angeles Lakers had two disappointing seasons behind them. They exited the first round last year. The team recently lost to the Suns in the play-in rounds. Coach Frank Vogel knows that he is up for replacement.

Searching for a New Lakers Coach

The search for a new Lakers head coach is on and several names came up. On top of these potential replacements for Vogel are Doc Rivers and Quin Snyder. Rivers is currently coaching the Philadelphia 76ers while Snyder leads the Utah Jazz.

There is no one else to blame but the coach if the team fails to reach the playoffs with the high-caliber players it has. Let’s take a peek at some of these potential candidates on the list.

Doc Rivers: A Potential in the Search for a New Lakers Coach

Doc Rivers is coaching the 76ers with three years and $24M left in his contract. Rivers has a record as the only coach to come out of a 3-1 disadvantage in 3 separate playoff histories. Most importantly, he will be a good blend with the Lakers’ veteran players.

A New Coach in The Return of Luke Walton

Luke Walton is a good option in the search for a new Lakers Coach. Walton formerly led the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2017-2019 NBA seasons with a record of 98-148. Walton also coached the Sacramento Kings in the 2020-2021 season but was fired following a 6-11 slow start. Certainly, he is a former player and a member of the LA Lakers family. He will bode well if given the chance again.

Get to Know Mike Dunleavy Senior

In searching for a new Lakers coach, management decided to add Mike Dunleavy Sr. to the pool of potential Vogel replacements. Dunleavy can help the aging Lakers do a once-over and retread the wheels for strong traction. He is 60 years old and can deliver positive results with a good lineup that could propel his coaching career to new heights. Above all, this opportunity is his last hurrah.

The Defense Overview of Mike Brown

Mike Brown is known for his defense strategies when handling a team. He showed his prowess when he led Cleveland to the finals in 2007. It was also during this time that Lebron James was on his team. His stay with the Cavaliers earned him the reputation as a defensive guru.

Brown coached the Lakers in the 2012-2013 season which did not go well due to his basic and slow offense. But that was then. The NBA evolved into a fast-paced game with more aggressive players on the court. Mike Brown’s experience coaching a team with Lebron James could be a good attribute in landing him the job.

There are other names popping on the list like Derek Fisher, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Mark Jackson, Jerry West, and Vladi Divac. And there are Mike D’Antoni, David Fizdale, Phil Handy, and Juwan Howard among the pool of coaches for selection.

So, who’s going to be the best pick? Surely, Vogel will be scheduled to leave at the end of the season, and searching for a new Lakers coach has the wheel turning.
