Carmelo Anthony Signs with the Los Angeles Lakers
Over his 17 year NBA career Anthony has played for the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Houston Rockets, and Portland Trail Blazers. He has put up 23 points and 6.3 rebounds per game for his career. He was originally drafted in the first round, third overall of the 2003 NBA draft by the Nuggets. Last season he averaged 13.4 points and 3.1 rebounds for the Trail Blazers.
Anthony is known for being good friends with Lakers superstar LeBron James. There has always been speculation that the two would eventually team up, and now they will find themselves as teammates. James will be searching for his fifth championship while Anthony will hoping to appear in, and win, his first NBA Finals. Look for Anthony to be a solid piece alongside the other Lakers stars in this upcoming season.
What This Means for the Future
After being out of the league for most of the 2018-19 season, Anthony found himself on the Trail Blazers. Over the past two seasons, he has become a valuable piece coming off the bench, shooting nearly 40% from behind the arc each season. Anthony has always been able to score in bunches, but in Los Angeles may have a different role. He could be the Lakers’ starting power forward. Even if Anthony comes off the bench in Los Angeles, he will get plenty of shots. He should fit well and will more than likely provide some scoring relief for James, Russell Westbrook, and Anthony Davis. The Lakers knew they would need to acquire more shooting in the offseason. Anthony will serve as a more than reliable option.
