VanVleet made a big jump offensively last year. In the 2019-20 NBA season, he averaged 17.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per game. These are all career-highs for VanVleet. He also owned an impressive defensive rating of 104.3 according to NBA.com.
This is great news for the Raptors. VanVleet was the Raptors’ first priority in free agency according to Andrew Tysiak of Next Sports Star. However, it is important to note that there is a player option in the fourth year of VanVleet’s contract.

Fred VanVleet Re-signing Overview
Toronto just signed one of their most important players in VanVleet. It is quite possible that VanVleet could be an NBA All-Star in the next four years. This is what six-time NBA All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry said about VanVleet according to Holden Walter-Warner of Hoops Habit.
“He’ll be an all-star one day.”
Whether that happens or not is another question. However, after Lowry and Pascal Siakam, VanVleet is the Raptors’ third-best player. He is well on his way to becoming an NBA All-Star for the Raptors. It has been an incredible journey for VanVleet, who was undrafted in the 2016 NBA Draft.
VanVleet has played well in both the regular season and the playoffs. As a result, he was the only player besides Kawhi Leonard to receive an NBA Finals Most Valuable Player vote in 2019.
With VanVleet’s signing, the Raptors will return one of the best backcourts in the NBA.
