The Greatest Players in NBA History to Wear #6

Everybody knows how special the number 23 is in sports. It was worn by the greatest basketball player to ever play in Michael Jordan. Jordan had a few times where he wore other numbers but he made the number 23 famous. LeBron James wears the number 23 because Jordan was his idol growing up. The greatest players in NBA history can inspire us by the number they wear.

Another famous number in the NBA is the number three. Three was worn by Allen Iverson. His iconic career makes everybody think of him when they see somebody wear number three in any sport. Another number that is special in the NBA is the number six. The player makes the number. What they do wearing the number makes that specific number a symbol of inspiration. These three players did just that by wearing the number six.

Jamal Crawford

Jamal Crawford only wore the number six one year in 2009 but his career has been nothing short of inspirational. What Crawford has done in the realm of basketball whether it be on the blacktop, in Pro-Am, or in the NBA has been nothing short of magical. Crawford brings streetball to the NBA. He has made a major impact on the game and he has done it while not being a starter most of the time.

Crawford is a three-time sixth man of the year. His ability to create offense has been useful to eight different teams in his NBA career. He is a well-respected player in the league due to his resume. In his career, he has averaged 14.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 3.4 assists. Crawford can still play and if he will play in the NBA is a big question. Everybody wants to see one more run.

LeBron James

During his days with the Miami Heat LeBron James decided it was time for a switch in jersey numbers. He changed his number to the number 6. The same number as one of his idols which is Julius Erving. James dominated in his new number which he wore during his whole tenure in Miami. He won back to back MVP awards as a member of the Miami Heat. 

While wearing the number six he averaged 26.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists. He also wore the number while playing on the USA team. He won two Olympic gold medals during his USA basketball career. James created quite a legacy while wearing the number six. He will wear number six again for the Los Angeles Lakers so Anthony Davis can wear the number 23 next year. 

Julius Erving

The greatest basketball player to ever wear the number six is Julius Erving. Erving was legendary everywhere he played from the blacktop, the ABA, to the NBA. He made the All-Star game every year in the NBA and ABA. Also, he won the Philadelphia 76ers their last championship. The players of today always make sure they show their respect to him. Erving motivates a plethora of basketball players today. Allen Iverson wore the number six in the 2002 NBA All-Star game which was held in Philadelphia to honor the legendary basketball player.

James wore the number six because Erving did. The former Sixers star created a legacy for the number six that can’t be matched by anyone. The number six is retired by the Philadelphia 76ers. In Erving’s Hall of Fame career, he averaged 24.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists. He also shot an efficient 50.6 percent from the field. Julius Erving’s name will always be synonymous with the number six.
