ThePortland Trail Blazers have signed Carmelo Anthony per Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal is non-guaranteed.
Portland Trail Blazers sign Carmelo Anthony
Carmelo Anthony has been out of the league for years and is now being given another chance to show that he can still play basketball at a high level. Now that Portland has signed Anthony, we will be able to see what he can contribute to an NBA team. Anthony was last seen with the Houston Rockets. During that time, he only played ten games for the Rockets and averaged 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 0.5 assists during the 2018-19 season.

Anthony is a former all-star who played 17 seasons in the NBA. He played for teams such as the Denver Nuggets, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Houston Rockets. Anthony is a 10-time All-Star who has been the leading scorer on multiple teams. He will be expected to fill in for the young Zach Collins as he recovers from a shoulder injury.
Carmelo Anthony’s new role
Now serving as the veteran, Anthony will have to become less of a scorer, and more of a role player that can spread the defense. He was criticized in the past for his inefficiency and shot selection during his time with Oklahoma and Houston. Now that the Blazers signed Carmelo Anthony, he can change the narrative.
This could be Anthony’s last chance to make it back in the NBA. He’s already on thin ice after bad stints in Oklahoma and Houston. If he can be a good role player for the Trail Blazers, Anthony might stick around for a few more years.
Anthony has impressed other players in the league. Kyle Kuzma said “Melo is easily better than half the league right now, there’s no question about it. He should be on a team right now. He’s still one of the best players.” Whether or not Anthony can give the Blazers the boost they need in unknown. It must be noted that he is one of the more exciting players to watch in the NBA.
