Utah Jazz, Joe Ingles Strike a Deal on a One-Year Extension

This signing comes on a day when a plethora of other players received extensions. Ingles is coming off his best season in the NBA. He set career highs in points at 12.1 per game and assists at 5.7 per game. Ingles shot 44 percent from three-point range in the 2017-18 season, though he regressed last season. Many teams keyed in on him at the number two option behind the budding superstar, Donovan Mitchell. Ingles is currently ninth among active players with a 40.8 percent rate from distance.

As Ingles gets older, his “three-and-D” presence is still felt through the league. Last season, He averaged 1.2 steals per game. His ability to stay on the court and able to play both sides of the court has made him invaluable to the Jazz.

“We are excited to keep a player like Joe (Ingles), as his character and leadership are critical for the foundation of the team,” said Utah Jazz general manager Justin Zanik.

Although Ingles started his NBA career in the 2014-15 season, his professional career started in 2007 for the South Dragons of the NBL. He went on to receive the Rookie of the Year honors that season.

Ingles is the second-longest tenured player on the Jazz roster. Rudy Gobert is currently the longest. The Jazz have high expectations this season. The team went and traded for the long-time Memphis Grizzlies point guard, Mike Conley. They were also able to snag forward Bojan Bogdanovic from the Indiana PacersJeff Green and Ed Davis were other veterans to join this team. It is unclear if Ingles will be in the starting rotation or the Sixth man on this Utah Jazz team. This news comes on the heels of the Jazz extending their head coach Quin Snyder.
