Minnesota Lynx Twitter Takes a Shot at Luka Doncic

Minnesota Lynx Luka Doncic

The famous quote goes as, “Don’t bite the hand that feeds.” The NBA has been supporting the WNBA for the foreseeable past. While there has been a public outcry of wage pay in women’s professional sports, sometimes any publicity is good publicity for a business. However, the Minnesota Lynx public relations team possibly didn’t see it that way by taking a shot at Luka Doncic.

Minnesota Lynx Don’t Take Kindly to Dallas Wings Tweet with Luka Doncic

The WNBA has reportedly been losing millions of dollars every year for the past 22 years. On September 4th, the Minnesota Lynx took it to Twitter to take a shot at Dallas Mavericks point-forward Luka Doncic from a tweet by the Dallas Wings. Claiming that he had not even shown up at a game this season for the Dallas Wings.

Putting the Backlash in Perspective

Many fans on Twitter are struggling to find why that would be an issue if its true or not. It’s evident that Doncic just holding Arike Ogunbowale’s jersey for the camera is an advertisement for the WNBA itself. In the year 2019, we live in a digital world and get most of our news, jokes, and memes from social media. The most effective way of marketing is over social media, whether the goal is to promote yourself or from a business perspective.

Seeing replies on Twitter saying it’s just a joke can say that as many times as they choose. But everyone self-aware knows there’s a grain of truth in every joke. So it could be a light-hearted jab or a passive-aggressive remark by a social media team member who thought the tweet wouldn’t be as controversial as it is.

Luka Doncic has over 450,000 followers on his Twitter account. Compare that to the Dallas Wings, who have around 22,000 followers as of today. So, you can do the math and figure out that this is a top-notch marketing tactic for the WNBA.

The Dallas Wings reached out to the reigning NBA rookie of the year to promote their business and players. But maybe the Minnesota Lynx tweet about Doncic is a marketing tactic in its own. The tweet is ruffling the feathers of the Twitter world.
