Wilson Chandler of the Brooklyn Nets has been suspended for 25 games by the NBA for testing positive for PED use. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported that Chandler was facing a 25 game suspension. The NBA then confirmed their decision to suspend Chandler shortly after.
NBA Suspends Wilson Chandler for PED Use
Chandler signed a veteran minimum contract with the Brooklyn Nets this off-season worth $2.56 million. The 25-game suspension will cause him to forfeit $582,898 in total salary. It will also open up minutes for other players on the Nets roster such as David Nwaba, Theo Pinson, Rodions Kurucs, and Dzanan Musa. Perhaps the Nets may consider signing another scoring forward in Carmelo Anthony.
Chandler was the 23rd pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the New York Knicks. He showed promise as a versatile scoring wing for the Knicks, averaging 16.4 points per game in his final half-season. He was traded to the Denver Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony in 2011 along with Raymond Felton, Danilo Gallinari, and Timofey Mozgov.
Chandler had some great performances for the Nuggets but often fell victim to injury. He played only eight games in the 2011-12 NBA season thanks to a labral tear in his left hip. In addition, he sat out the entire 2014-15 NBA season due to a labral tear in his right hip. Chandler’s inability to stay on the floor contributed to him being traded to the Philadelphia 76ers in 2018 off-season. He finished the year with the Los Angeles Clippers where he only averaged 4.3 points in 15 games played.
Suspensions for PED use is rare in the NBA, but not unheard of. Chandler will be eligible to return to the NBA on Dec. 15th.
