Despite the New York Knicks’ recent Free Agency struggles, they have a rich history of great players on their roster. The talent that they had just couldn’t put it all together, but the rich team history is undeniable. The New York Knicks All-Time Team is filled with talent.
All-Time New York Knicks Team
Starting Lineup
Point Guard – Walt Frazier
Walt Frazier is arguably the best point guard in Knicks’ history. With averages of 19.3 points per game, 6.3 assists per game, and 6.1 rebounds per game for New York, Frazier n has the statistics of a great player. Other than the stats, he also led the Kicks to the 1970 NBA championship. In Game Seven, he had an amazing 36 points, 19 assists, and 7 rebounds and the Knicks won it all. He is now the color analyst for the Knicks and is still repping his Knicks to this day.
Shooting Guard – Allan Houston
Allan Houston is one of the most underrated Knicks’ of all time. For the Knicks, Houston averaged 18.5 points per game, 3.1 rebounds per game, and 2.5 assists per game. From 1997-2001, Houston shot 49 percent from the field, 40 percent from the arc and 86 percent from the free-throw line. Obviously, he was a great shooter for the team. One of the Knicks’ most memorable moments came at the hands of Houston, who sank a running jumper to knock off the top-seeded Miami Heat.
Small Forward – Bernard King
In his career with the Knicks, Bernard King averaged 26.5 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 2.8 assists per game. Though he only played 138 games for the Knicks, King was amazing. King became the first NBA player to log back-to-back 50-point games in 1984. He also had a 60 point game. His 32.9 points per game in the 1984-85 season are the most any Knick has averaged in a season to date.
Power Forward – Amar’e Stoudemire
Amar’e Stoudemire had a short tenure with the Knicks, but that didn’t stop him from putting up great numbers. With the Knicks, he averaged 20.9 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game, and 1.7 assists per game. With those solid numbers, Stoudemire earned his spot in the starting lineup.
Center – Patrick Ewing
Patrick Ewing is the greatest Knick of all time. Ewing averaged 22.8 points per game, 10.4 rebounds per game, and 2.0 assists per game as a Knick, it is undeniable that Ewing was an amazing player. Plagued by the fact that he played in an era with Michael Jordan, Ewing never won a championship. The Knicks and Ewing did reach an NBA Finals but fell short to the Houston Rockets.
Bench
Point Guard – Mark Jackson
Mark Jackson was one of the few good point guards in Knicks’ history. On the Knicks, he averaged 11.1 points per game, 4.0 rebound per game, and 8.0 assists per game, and had a great career with the Knicks. After playing for other teams for a stint of his career, Jackson came back to the Knicks at the age of 35 and started all but two games in two seasons.
Shooting Guard – Earl Monroe
Earl Monroe had a great career for the Knicks. He averaged 16.2 points per game, 3.5 assists per game, and 2.6 rebounds per game. Monroe had great potential in his career, but it was unfortunately cut short due to knee issues. The backcourt of Monroe and Frazier was one of the best backcourts of all-time.
Small Forward – Carmelo Anthony
Despite his current situation in the NBA, Carmelo Anthony was a monster on the Knicks. For them, he averaged 25.5 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game, and 3.2 assists per game. Though Anthony did not win a championship, he certainly was an amazing player. The Anthony hype around New York during his tenure was empowering for the franchise.
Power Forward – Charles Oakley
Playing 1282 career games, Charles Oakley averaged 9.7 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game, and 2.5 assists per game. Oakley also had an All-Star appearance and was selected to two All-NBA Defensive teams.
Center – Willis Reed
Willis Reed spent 10 years with the Knicks. In seven of those years, he averaged a double-double. He also averaged 18.7 points per game, 12.9 rebounds per game, and 1.8 assists per game in 10 total years. The accomplishments in his career were enough to secure Reed a place as one of the best Knicks of all time, as well as a place in the Hall of Fame.
