Houston Rockets Trade Carmelo Anthony to Chicago Bulls

After a disastrous start to the season, the Houston Rockets parted ways with Carmelo Anthony. He only played ten games in Houston, however, it only took that long for management to realize he didn’t fit. The Houston Rockets have traded Carmelo Anthony to the Chicago Bulls along with cash considerations. In addition to Anthony, the Bulls will receive the draft rights to Jon Diebler. Houston will receive the draft rights to Tadija Dragicevic. Anthony is expected to be waived. The only question is, where will he sign next?

Houston We Have a Problem

After much anticipation in the offseason, Carmelo Anthony was supposed to be one of the Rockets big acquisitions last offseason. After a failed season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Anthony looked for a fresh start. This time playing with one of his close friends in Chris Paul. Anthony averaged a career low in points with the Rockets. He only averaged 13.4 ppg.

Houston went 4-6 in games that Anthony played in. This was after a 1-5 start to the season in October. They decided however that they were better off with Anthony not on the roster as the two sides parted ways in the middle of November.

Quick Stop in Chicago

Although he’s been traded to the Chicago Bulls. It’s been reported that Anthony will be released right away and become a free agent if he clears waivers. This is the exact scenario when he was traded to the Atlanta Hawks. Anthony was traded to the Hawks but was released before he could play one game.

Where to Next?

It’s been long speculated that Anthony would be teaming up with LeBron James in Los Angeles. This is very much a possibility. Anthony’s name was attached to the Los Angeles Lakers before going to Houston. James and Anthony are longtime friends, and it’s no secret the Lakers need more scorers. Although he’s not the coveted player he once was. Carmelo Anthony is still one of the best scorers in the league when he’s on his game. The possibility is always there that a surprise team will try to acquire Anthony. However, after the disaster experiments in Oklahoma City and Houston, teams will be weary to mess up their team chemistry with Anthony this late in the season.
