After breaking into the team’s rotation this year, Allonzo Trier has turned himself into one of the leagues top rookies. Trier signed a two-way contract at the beginning of the season. This meant he could only spend a maximum of 45 days on the New York Knicks roster before having to go to the G-League for the rest of the year. His hard work was noticed and he was rewarded with a brand new two-year deal.
Allonzo Trier Agrees to Two Year Deal with New York Knicks
Allonzo Trier’s contract is for two years and worth 7 million dollars. This is the most lucrative deal to come out since they implemented the two-way contract in 2017.
Hidden Gem
At the University of Arizona, Trier averaged 16.8 points in his three years at the school. In his last season, Trier averaged 18.1 points on 50 percent shooting. Despite his impressive numbers Trier went undrafted and signed with the Knicks shortly after the end of the draft.
Killer Mentality
Trier gained recognition for his hard play style and killer mentality at the basket. Despite bad shooting nights, Trier finds a way to make it to the basket and more importantly to the free throw line. Trier is fourth among rookies in free throw attempts at 98. He is also third among rookies in free throws made at 80.
Top in the Class
Among other rookies in the league, Trier ranks seventh in points per game at 11.3. This is above his teammate Kevin Knox who was drafted ninth. Trier is also just below rookie phenoms Jaren Jackson Jr. and Marvin Bagley on that list. He has scored 20 points in three games this year and has scored in double digits in 13 of his 27 games played.
Trier has easily set himself up to be one of the best players to ever come into the league undrafted. He’s shown he can play at a high level in the NBA and he’s only going to get better from here. If Trier lives up to his talents, he could be in line for a large contract in the future.
