Report: Denver Nuggets Sign Guard Nick Young

The Denver Nuggets have signed guard Nick Young to a non-guaranteed $1.65 million dollar contract on December 10th. Along with this move, the Nuggets waived Brandon Goodwin, who they signed late November, resulting in a $66 thousand dollar cap charge.

This move was clearly done due to the recent injury bug the Denver Nuggets have faced. They are down six players, in Gary Harris, Will Barton, Paul Millsap, Isaiah Thomas, Michael Porter Jr, and Jarred Vanderbilt. That is 3 starters, and in total, 50% of their payroll. So, the Nuggets are bringing in some depth to hopefully keep their heads above water until some players come back.

Harris and Millsap are gone for multiple weeks, Barton’s timetable is unknown, and Isaiah Thomas is looking to come back sometime in December. Meanwhile, Coach Mike Malone hopes that Nick Young can bring some depth and scoring, as well as some veteran leadership as the current Nuggets players are very young and inexperienced.

Jamal Murray (21), Juan Hernangomez (23), Trey Lyles (23), Nikola Jokic (23), Monte Morris (23) are all still young in the NBA. Only two other players are older than 23 that are healthy, Torrey Craig (27) and Mason Plumlee (28). However, Torrey Craig is only in his second year in the league. Nick Young (33) is now the oldest player on the Nuggets roster and is a former NBA Champion, that should contribute in multiple ways. It will be interesting to see how much he plays and what exactly his role is going to be.
